    Oh have some dignity.

The Times is open to correction at any time.

editor@irishtimes.com if you need to continue this farther.

    Asks for evidence.

    Given evidence.

    Asks for dignity 🤣

Evidence of what? Good faith journalism? Stop the presses.

    Reported a story.

    Corrects newly apparent error.

    Accused of malice.

"Woke" as an attempted insult reminds me of the who "PC gone mad" trope in the 80s. A meaningless strawman used by those who have the inability to cogently argue their point.

The right like to think it is some kind of gotcha in a culture war nobody under 40 gives a fcuk about

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,504 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

It's why Godwin gets proven right again and again. I read it as "Woke == something I don't like" and move on.

Yer man that posted that lengthy screed from whoever on what it means brought it out perfectly - the screed came down to, "I can define everything in the world this way and not like it because its woke." Really sad someone is so mentally disabled as the writer of the screed to publish it, and others slurp it up. Apparently peddles 'white genocide' CT and started his professional life as a PhD mathematician-turned-massage therapist in Upstate NY. Weird.

The ironic thing about the group of people who use the term Woke in a derisory manner is that they spend a lot of their time telling people to 'Wake up to what the Government/Media/Hollywood/EU is doing' and many of them also see themselves as being 'Redpilled', the premise of which is to be alert/aware to an uncomfortable truth, or you know, to be awake to what is supposedly happening. But not woke! Definitely not that.

Same practice of referring to Liberal people for the last couple of decades as being snowflakes while freaking out over gender neutral names or bathrooms.

Part of what frustrates me about Left/Right participants is that the Left are held to a higher standard. AOC get's pilloried for advocating for a Green New Deal that will lead to a healthier, more sustainable planet and which looks at jobs in current fossil fuel industry can transition to jobs in the renewable sector. And she is said to be talking nonsense.

In the UK, MP's like Zarah Sultana joins with unions fighting for fairer wages and a more uniform standard of living in society and I bet few people know who she is while people like Nigel Farage who failed to be elected to Westminster 7 times and helped the UK sacrifice at least two generations though his xenophobia and bigotry has spent the last 15 years as almost a staple on Question time and other high profile media shows.

This is what influential voices on the right were up to yesterday.

    And in reality....

    The key information here...

    7774 yards = 23,322 feet

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,427 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

You know what really is ironic. The lefty Pearl clutchers who were agreeing with Professor Sam Mc Conkey that Irish males should require a licence to walk the streets are the same people arguing that thousands of undocumented single foreign men should be welcomed to live on the streets of Irish towns and cities.

Except no one was agreeing with that were they?

Nor are they saying thousands of undocumented should be free to just live here.

See, this is another case of me pointing out something in the real world, and you using a falsehood to counter it.

And this after several days of deriding journalists integrity.

    Integrity? What integrity?

Second generation Irish Times journalists from Ranelagh telling working class communities to “punch up”. Give me a break.

The left are not calling for any restrictions on undocumented people entering Ireland.

Look at your comrade, Ruth Coppinger’s definition of a refugee.

    Integrity? What integrity?

    We've been over this.

The Times correcting their reports after superior information is found is not evidence of an integrity issue.

The woman in the tweet is nobody's 'comrade' she lost her election. Politician tweets karma bait, stop the press.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,427 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

Yeah and me handling back your wallet after you catch me picking your pocket isn’t an integrity issue either.

    Droll.

Even after being sued, actual integrity-lacking outlets like Newsmax, OANN, and Fox News continue to spout nonsense about a stolen election. 'but its opinion wah'

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,427 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

Nobody’s comrade? Some of her comrades should tell her.

    Comrade;

    • a fellow socialist or communist (often as a form of address).
    • "‘You're right, comrade’"

A key part of journalism is getting it right and getting it right at the start.

Retractions and post publishing edits are always considered an embarrassment in journalism they're the result of lax editorial standards.

If it was a real get out jail card to be pulled out, then any old shite could be printed, get the reaction and then issue the retraction.

    Urgh.

Coppinger is such an odious cretin, always first to start flinging muck and never around to apologise when she's been proven wrong.

She and her ilk (Paul Murphy, Hazel Chu, Ebun Joseph etc...) are always on hand to condemn Irish society as some sort of Quasi-Fascist hell scape where Women, LGBTQ people and minorities are subjected to summary abuse both verbal and physical on a daily basis at the hands of the balance of the population who are Irish males and as such are obviously all extremely wealthy far right bigots with worst of all white skin (boo hiss).

We've seen evidence of the far right in Ireland being complete and utter idiots on this thread over the last week, namely Dean Carey and we've alluded to the National Party and their inflammed bulging haemaroid of a leader Justin Barrett as well but we forget the Irish left and their utter stupidity at our peril.

This is why the premise of this thread is so utterly ludicrous. We all know the far right are idiots but the left aren't any better particularly in Ireland where the left seems to be populated entirely by entitled, privileged middle class posers who routinely wade in with both feet on issues without a shred of evidence and make libelous statements on Twitter and in the press like they're going out of fashion. Yet somehow we're supposed to ignore these facts and row in behind the logic set out by the OP of this thread.

The dangers aren't coming from just the right it's the left too, as radical a statement some here would have you believe that is, it's a fact.

    Glazers Out!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,427 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

They never apologise or inform their opinions. Just walking cliches.

This champion of the workers proposed nationalising foreign multinationals in Ireland. You know, the multinationals that pay more than a third of tax and employ hundreds of thousands of people.

You do know that Overheal would only be too delighted if the US did indeed concentrate on themselves.

But, because of the 'interests' of the US military industry in ensuring that they continue to get their $875B every year, it's going to continue to look for places to both try out and justify these toys.

And that aside, the biggest thing that is going to drive migration over the next 10-100 years is likely going to be the climate. So if you want to stop seeing people rush from areas most at risk, start advocating for meaningful change.

How is it that you are so incapable of understanding the premise of the thread when it has been explained in such detail in the OP, and throughout. Now, before you run to report me for calling you stupid (I didn't), it is a genuine and reasonable question given how much you have posted here and how wide of the mark you have been on all the topics you have focused on. Can you explain why you persist with focusing on nothing that has been mentioned at any point in justification for the thread.

You and the rest of the 'HeyI'mnotrightwingIjustcallitasIseeit' crew, those still here and those who have come to Boards are proving the thread title time and time and time again when you post about comparatively inconsequential BS that has you either all genuinely wound up, or you are just using to muddy the water with this BS bothsidesisms.

Brexit, the war in Ukraine, access to housing, ability to plan for a reasonable life and retirement, access to healthcare, housing, education etc, the undermining of the democratic process and the state of the natural environment are all the biggest issues affecting people in our societies today. All these issues are either direct consequences of the golden child of the right wing (capitalism) or right wing parties and individuals or are severely exacerbated by right wing philosophies.

But you're here spitting fire and venom day after day about stuff that is at worst completely irrelevant or at best on the fringes in terms of influence and impact.

    Why is that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,427 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

The biggest driver of migration over the next 10 to 100 years will be economic and security. Same as it’s always been.

Economic and security influenced by repeated farming and food crop failures like we saw in Pakistan last year.
