Same on the tv in work today and likewise at home at the moment, there was talk some time ago about winding down the service, I presume there would be an announcement.

So frustrating - same here for the last few days (Three Rock transmitter)

Everytime it goes off, there's the same routine - check on the alternative channel, reboot the box/tv, do a reinstall.

Does no one in there sctually keep an eye on what thy're putting out and that it's working correctly?

Or is text "not supported by your licence!" 😠

My elderly Dad really relies on this so hope it will be restored soon. Very frustrating.

It's been like that for the past three days. RTE obviously just aren't bothered monitoring it.

Four days and counting. What a joke.

4 days is not too bad compared to AD/Nar issue on TG4/TV3/3e that was wrong for at least 5 years.

You could try emailing NMC@2rn.ie to notify them of issue.

They're aware of the problem anyway

2RN, the company that manages the transmitter network for Saorview, has advised that they are currently experiencing a fault with Aertel on Saorview. They are working on resolving the fault.

And the subtitles on RTE1 and RTE2 from Brougher have never worked properly though TG4 is OK.

Good news! The Text seems to back up and running on the RTÉ programmes this morning. Well done.

It is a much more comprehensive, varied and detailed service than the text on the BBC programmes.

The 'old style' aertel teletext was still working on RTE on Sky last week (I don't have Sky but text decoded on the encrypted RTE on satellite) however they had stopped updating the news etc on the Tuesday morning after Saorview text failed.

So if the MHEG5 Saorview text had genuinely failed, could they not have temporarily routed the 'old' (WST) teletext to Saorview temporarily as a backup??? Saorview compliant receivers are supposed to work with both teletext systems.

Cynics might wonder if it really was a breakdown, or an experiment to see how many would complain during an unannounced shutdown. If few complained it would be used as justification in any cost-cutting closure of the service in the future. (However many users probably assumed it was a glitch with their own TV/STB/aerial , and/or wouldn't be inclined to complain to RTE)

I happened to hear that the Saorview teletext was back working on C103 radio in Cork on Friday. So there must have been some reaction to it being down.

It is still a useful service to many, one might switch to Aertel to see the news stories during ad breaks (and still at least hearing the ads). If Aertel did not exist at all, they might change channels to a news channel during ad breaks and not see/hear the ads at all (and perhaps stay on another channel!) , so perhaps any closure of Aertel is not good for RTE in other respects also.
