Feeling like a complete failure

I’ve been struggling with my horse not listening to me, I do everything my trainer tells me to do, but it doesn’t work. Our rides usually just end with me wanting to cry because I can’t even get him to walk in a damn circle.

I could say more, but right now I just feel like a complete failure. He’s my first horse, and I’m just messing everything up. I don’t even remember our last enjoyable ride.

Not sure what I’m looking for here, maybe just a vent.

I think this was supposed to go into the equestrian forum but I'll answer it anyway.

It sounds like you might have either over-horsed yourself (very common), and/or need a few more lessons on a riding school horse to bring up your confidence. Some horses are stubborn monkeys who quickly figure out that if they don't have to do something, they won't.

Not remembering your last enjoyable ride is very telling. There's no shame is rehoming a horse that doesn't suit and perhaps that is what's needed. If I was you now, I'd rehome and get a few riding school lessons to get your confidence back up in yourself.

If you don't want to rehome, you could always loan him out for a while.
