Russia Will Restart Moon Landings, Says Putin

Russia will renew its lunar program with a new moon landing mission, President Vladimir Putin announced Tuesday.

“We need to successfully stand up to the challenges of space exploration,” Putin said during a visit to the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia’s Far Eastern Amur region. He also said that Russia would continue work on a “next-generation spaceship,” as well as nuclear space technology.

The Luna 25 mission plans to land an unmanned spacecraft on the moon’s surface later this year. The project, which continues a Soviet space program of the same name, has been planned for the past decade but experienced repeated delays.

The mission hopes to be just one part of a wider program, with plans to unveil an International Lunar Research Station with China in 2035.

When I saw this I thought a 'manned' lunar mission. Wtf is the point of sending satellites or landing un manned ships

Sorry but I hope this fails

Go NASA Go Space X. Boo Russia they are bad.

Untill that evil deranged madman his administration and his croonnies are gone I will be hoping for nothing but badness and failures for Russia.

In fact I hope Russia goes bust soon and has to stop there illegal war on Ukraine.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

For the same mass to support humans for any length of time robots will get more science done. There's a 5 second delay to the moon. Or at least that was the lag on the Lunokhod rovers. So nearly live. While humans are faster and more flexible, robotic rovers can stay longer and don't life support or a way to get home. And samples have been sent home by small rockets.

840kg of 1960's tech launched on a Proton, similar payload to a Falcon 9 Full Thrust, so launch today would be as cheap as chips compared to $4Bn per SLS flight and all the other backup that NASA is doing.

But still expensive. But China has deep pockets and like the US before them (apart from SpaceX the only big engines the US has used since the shuttles RS25's are based on or are Russian designs ) will try to buy Russian tech as cheaply as possible.

Not sure how Russia can manage anything. The outlook for their economy is not the best and they have a war to support. This all sounds like Putin trying to talk up big prestige projects that'll either go nowhere or waste scarce resources while the average Russian sees their standard of living slipping even further behind the West.

Not without selling the family silver to the Chinese.

There's a lot of hard data the Russians have on space stuff that works and stuff that doesn't. Chinese spacecraft have a very obvious Soviet ancestry. A joint Chinese-Russian mission would have money flowing one way and technology going the other. And then the Chinese won't need the Russians.

Meanwhile NASA is relying on Europeans for life support and propulsion for their new moon rocket after the first two hours of the flight because spaceflight is hard and congress won't let them buy Russian tech anymore.

    What does he mean restart?

Russia never had a manned lunar landing. The only time they landed on the moon, was in Superman 2.

And they absolutely cannot do it without, what? Western technology!!

Can't even keep their western made airliners in the air. The massive spoofers.
