Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This is fantastic, hes such a child that actually thought simply owning the domain was enough to do this, I'd love to be in the rooms when he's shouting about who should have checked this all and he's told he fired those teams.

He should probably go see a doctor. He's getting more bizarre as the weeks go on.

You can’t just make a claim like that without producing supporting evidence with relevant examples.

Latest episode of The x Fails has dropped.

  • Registered Users Posts: 158 ✭✭Kevrano

it feels like there are people at his other enterprises that contain his impulsive behaviour and prevent him doing any damage. But at Twitter, that doesn’t happen. Was the X rebrand actually planned I wonder? It’s like he only decided to do it on Saturday.

I'm a bit confused how 2 corporations can already have the same IP for X without each other facing off legally: so why would Twitter face any if Microsoft and Meta haven't already served each other papers?

Having learned of Musk's prior attempts at x.com ... is it a stretch to speculate this is all just a vanity project and big F You to Peter Thiel for rebuffing the PayPal rename all those decades ago? Not like there isn't anecdotal evidence towards how petty and insecure billionaire men are.

  • Registered Users Posts: 158 ✭✭Kevrano

I suspect that neither corporation has actually used it in competing industries, so no legal wrangling yet.

On your second point, I had the same thought. Even though I still feel he decided to action the change over the weekend, he is childish enough to make the change because he wasn’t allowed to decades previously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,661 ✭✭✭✭For Forks Sake

Roughly speaking, I believe Microsoft's pertains to gaming (Xbox) and Metas is for social media so they wouldn't really be encountering each other.

On the other hand if Elmo even attempts to enter either sector without copyright they'll both lawyer up in record time you would imagine

I'd say he's almost definitely wanted to rebrand as X for a while and there were likely some internal discussions about it.

And then he announced, on a weekend, on a whim, that they were going ahead with it. And now they're all scrambling to make it work.

A brand change can be done, but usually it's done almost instantanously; you announce a date when it's going to happen to make people aware of it and build up hype, then on that date, everything switches over to the new branding. All the pieces were already in place, everything lined up, then like a click of your fingers it goes live.

Now there are headless chickens running around Twitter HQ shouting "What did he say he wanted tweets to be? X's? Xeets? F*ck it just put something down.... What do you mean he wants videos to be called Xvideos? THAT'S A PORN SITE!.... He's removing the logo from outside the building? Did he get a permit? F*ck now the sign just says 'ITTER'! When did he say he wants us to do banking? We can't do banking.... HE'S ALREADY PUT US BILLIONS IN DEBT!"

I’m assuming this is some kind of weird bluff or publicity stunt.

Getting rid of the Twitter name can only be described as corporate suicide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,187 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Yep. Those people at the other companies played a blinder keeping him distracted enough not to ruin everything if left unminded.

A barely passing Leaving Cert business student would still be expected to avoid most of the moronic pitfulls Musky has leapt into.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

The company's already drowning in debt it needs to reduce from the acquisition; the rebrand appears to be wholesale and including the physical property; and seems this isn't the first time Musk tried to rebrand his company t X.com ... so by all accounts it appears to be a genuine move.

Who knows, maybe Twitter is embedded enough in the zeitgeist that such a drastic change to one of the world's most recognisable brands ... but ehhh. Yeesh. Can't complain I suppose: a world without Twitter would be a better one indeed.

It's spelled X Æ A-12 and is absolutely true. Elon's X-wife and mother of the child explained the meaning on Twitter

"The first “X” is a reference to the unknown variable commonly used in mathematical sums.

“Æ”, which comes next, is the Elven spelling of AI, which is shorthand for artificial intelligence and translates to “love” in several languages such as Mandarin and Japanese.

Next in the name is “A-12”, which Grimes explains is a precursor to the aircraft SR-17, which she and Musk love because it is “great in battle but non-violent”.

“No weapons, no defenses, just speed,” she adds.

The A in ”A-12” is also short for Archangel, which Grimes says is her favourite song. However, it isn’t clear which song titled “Archangel” the singer is referring to."

This is fake , but you can see how so many people think it's real - That's just how nonsensical it is to change the corporate brand.

TicTok has now added the ability to post text only TicToks

So they have now entered this market so I can see a very large majority of the billion or so TicTok users that used both Twitter and TicTock leaving X completely behind.

A very different user-base , but yes another easy reason to ditch the shambles that is "X" .

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Different user-base, but also a critical one: IMO Facebook's user-base stalled precisely because for one reason or another, it failed to capture the younger demographics and they went off to use Snapchat or - latterly - TikTok.

TikTok already has "the yoof" somewhat sewn up, but given that's the demographic trends towards progressive social and political views the most; the increasingly toxic atmosphere of Twitter will only drive them further away.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 16,249 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

Fair point and agree with you on that.

Adding the text based posts function perhaps facilitates TikTok in capturing some of the older demographic that wouldn't want to be doing videos for the most part.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,319 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I wouldn't actually see Tiktok offering text-posts as any kind of reasonable threat to TwitterX. People are already able to do that by just having a pic/video of a wall and putting the text over the pic/video. It's also a lot harder to follow discussions/feeds etc.

Threads would be the main competitor to TwitterX. Once they get a dedicated Follwers tab going, a hell of a lot of people of various demographics would already be on Instagram/Facebook that Threads would likely be the easiest place for them to migrate to and find, and particularly given how many celebrities are already on Instagram, finding them and following them on Threads would be much easier than Tiktok.

Threads will likely never be anywhere as big as Twitter was, but I don't think anything will regardless. A lot of people would use the fall of TwitterX to reduce their social media stuff anyway, and others will migrate to various other places. But Threads would definitely be the one to pick up most of the TwitterX userbase when people jump ship.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 16,249 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

Depends on how it's implemented - You can put text up today by taking a screen shot of a block of text and uploading it , but that's clunky.

If it just becomes a "fill in this text box and post" it could work well.

Agree though about following the discussion in tiktok as it currently works.

Who knows to be honest what people will choose, other than the fact that Musk is doing everything he can to alienate a massive chunk of his user base.

Leading to an alleyway that you don't really want to go down.

I assume that when they eventually start offering all this "everything" stuff users will be utterly bombarded with prompts to buy/subscribe etc. and probably will remove or extremely limit access to anyone not paying for access.

90%+ less users than they have today.

Also, as someone pointed out, the home icon is literally a bird house.

As roll-outs go, yeah, someone is going to be fired. If, that is, they weren't already fired months ago.

Do yourself a favour and find your communities on Mastodon, Threads will inevitably become a cesspit of rage bait just like Facebook since that seems to be the only way for these massive social media organisations know how to generate revenue.

Nobody will be fired, the rollout is going exactly as well as it could due to Space Karens random demands that must be immediately implemented. Yes in other more professionally run companies a brand change would be planned out and scoped for months in advance to identify and prep all the changes required to then be able to simple press a button and change everything everywhere all at once..... But that's not how Space Karen does things, sure he doesn't even have the copyright for his chosen logo let alone running a social media company using the name X.

To be honest, how many things by now can be deceived by the following quote:

Advisors express concern over …………. as a brand. Elon loves it.

Daddy’s little rich boy isn’t used to having people around him say no. His past successes have been based on spotting someone else’s good idea, buying into it, and paying smarter people than him to run and develop them. When he takes the steering wheel, the other wheels inevitably fall off

Elon has shown contempt for workers of all kinds it's almost a full time job keeping up with the changes at twitter most of which seem designed to annoy it's most dedicated users .the software industry demands leadership diplomacy and some respect for workers as there's a high degree of competition between tech company's

  • Well, he bought one of the internet's most recognisable brands. In fact, it's even a verb. I've octogenarian relatives who don't have a smartphone who would be aware of Twitter's existence without knowing what it does. It's a huge brand.

He paid grossly over the odds for it, undermined everything that made it useful and interesting and then changed the enormously significant name to something completely bland, unrecognisable and just pointless.

Rebranding is a hugely sensitive and strategic thing that usually takes years never mind months to plan and would have to be justified due to something like a very tarnished brand or going a totally new direction.

Effectively he's just destroying all of Twitter's value. It was never worth 44 billion or whatever he paid, but it was worth quite a bit and what's left of it now? All the core people are gone. It had problems before, but they're now all amplified to the point that it's become utterly toxic and he's now scrapped its brand.

It's not some tiny little startup. It was one of the biggest brands online.

People aren't moaning about the changes, the are commenting that the changes have essentially torpedoed a well known brand for what looks like a porn brand. Essentially the same rabbit hole that Musk went down that saw him kicked out of Paypal
