I'd guess this was more an effort to clamp down on scalpers re-selling than to prevent owners selling because they hated it and would probably include a tesla buyback. Demand will vastly exceed supply.

(I mean that's what a reasonable person would assume, heaven knows with musk)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Yeah I suspect it's a demand Vs supply - especially as we know production remains a serious problem in Tesla. Mind you. It kinda depends on the assumption there's gonna be a demand cos bar a few inevitable high profile buyers it still looks like The Homer.

I dunno, Balmer was such a bad dancer, but also so bad it kind came out the other side due to his commitment and energy. Guy danced like he didn't give a fúck who was watching. Musk's dancing more reminds me of...

the Johnathan Swift quote seems appropriate for this thread, there must be more posts here than the some total of lots of the Covid threads, and it doesnt seem to be a fanboy thread lol , I need to find out more about the Stamas Krebs people but they seem to be an influential propaganda group in the US

So the increase in hate speech on Twitter is a win? Cause that's the reality. I've also heard similar said about the people who ran the likes of Parlor. All Musk has succeeded in doing is destroying the viability of the platform. Wild that people think bringing the likes of Tommy Robinson or Katie Hopkins back on the platform is a win.

I find it weird that people are still simping for Musk, let alone they use the word "genius" adjacent to him

Im no fan of english nationalism, being irish the more diversity and less english they become etc the better, but Im generally not a fan of cancelling people, better he be on twitter than robinson slinking around on Telegram or what not.

Whether Twitter is viable or not that the story that hasnt had a conclusion yet, the site is objectively better technically since he took it over, the community notes featrue is worth 40bn by itsself, its glorious seeing CNN and the like being fact checked in real time forcing the media to be better, and it will be interesting to see how the whole video side of the site develops over time and other commercial stuff.

I think the Tweet is an attempt to imply the thread's general laughter at Musk is somehow embitterment from emotive lunatics over Elon's apparent genius. He must be a genius cos people talk about him / laugh at him/ criticise him

Like, OK. By Musk's own words Twitter has lost a tonne of value and the Cybertruck is a big old Homer but sure, we're all jealous. Lol

Technically, it most definitely is not improved. They've had more technical issues than they've had for years. They've been disastrous technically since he took over, this includes things like basic audio feeds going down. It's basically been hilarity for the engineering community to watch.

In terms of the hate speech that you think should be out in the public. Since they've lost a huge proportion of their advertising revenue, it's pretty clear advertisers want nothing to do with it.

It's not unusual to have such clauses.

In 2017, Cena took delivery of an all-new 2017 Ford GT supercar. He then sold the car just a few months later, and in doing so violated the sales agreement, which stated that the Ford GT’s hand-picked customers, who were chosen through an application process, were not allowed to sell the car for at least two years. The contract was meant to discourage exactly this type of flipping, but everybody knows pro wrestlers don’t follow rules.

I had actually forgotten about that time Musk stepped in and reinstated the account that was distributing child sex abuse images.

  • At this stage I'm just wondering at what point he gets board of Twitter, declares X's main business to be, let's say cryptocurrency (anything to save a bit of face) and he just closes the 'forum' aspect of it entirely.

Realistically at this stage Twitter is completely destroyed. It's increasingly not the same platform it was a few years ago and what made it interesting is no longer there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,386 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

There's still some money to be made. In it's essence it's not the same, it's closer to truth social at this stage but even with a smaller user base it'll still generate some money from the social network aspects.

I say "some money". It'll still be a shadow of what it once was.

BTW, has anyone else who uses twitter noticed that besides all the really **** adverts they're also seeing sponsored posts from Enoch Burke?

I dunno if it will make any money tbh. It took Twitter more than a decade to get to profitability, now they're haemorrhaging revenue and users while any good will they may have built up with suppliers and commercial partners is being chewed up with the way Musk is treating his staff and commercial partners

How will the Musk defenders spin this? Just completely blank it? Is this part of his defend free speech strategy by allowing child sexual abuse on the platform?

ELON MUSK’S X, formerly known as Twitter, has not paid a fine imposed for failing to outline its plans to stamp out content depicting child sexual abuse on the platform, Australia’s internet safety watchdog told AFP on Tuesday... Last month, eSafety commissioner Julie Inman Grant slapped a fine of $610,500 (Australian dollars) — around €360,000 — on the company for failing to respond to questions she sent in February, criticising the company’s “empty talk” on the issue.

Twitter (and Facebook?) were famously incapable of making profit for years before Musk even started making stupid 420 purchase-price jokes: by Musk's own admission the valuation has tanked in his time there; we know important advertisers have (for now) abandoned the service 'cos its value has become severely lessened by bad press & moves like scrubbing the old verification rules; Twitter Blue made the quality of experience degrees worse; smaller stuff like the crazy API fees have killed 3rd party link-ups; and god knows what the EU privacy / data laws are gonna do 'cos AFAIK there's no movement by Twitter about that?

I wonder what odds you'd get for Microsoft or someone swooping in and taking it over? Offer a "reasonable" price to let Musk walk away shirt relatively intact, while an established corporation with a small degree of good will gets to scoop up Twitter and restore goodwill.

to walk away with his shirt relatively intact he would have to get near to what he paid. It is worth half what he paid, if even that.

Undoubtedly, but given Musk's phenomenal wealth to start with, I would trust his accountants to lessen the impact of selling on. He's more able to walk away relatively intact than most wealthy folk.

Unless of course he's so dogged about the Everything App he goes full Spruce Goose on the thing and drives himself to distraction mutating Twitter into his folly. He seems unsound enough that that's more likely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,631 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

Musk is Spruce goosed given that Tesla are also in financial bother with his cybertruck looking like it's going to be a massive flop. and Tesla were already massively over valued

Twitter soaked up all of Musk's liquid wealth, and now the golden goose is tanking because of Musk's ludicrous hubristic cyber truck that musk ploughed ahead with despite most of his engineers hating the design and concept

That does seem like the latest oncoming train, more so than Twitter perhaps; 'cos like the internet itself it's a fairly abstracted, amorphous entity that doesn't have a centre as such to focus on; the Cybertruck could be ruinous for Tesla in the shape it is now being a manufactured entity, and it's hard to see how or where the thing becomes a financial success. IIRC production is already troublesome for normal Teslas right?

Im just glad for the option to speak relatively freely (over there).

A great many people in Ireland are too, including those you know personally and in your local community, im sure they dont approve of all things Twitter/Musk.

You must see the value in being able to self express, what if Assange or MLK had been silenced.

So you're happy to cheer on what Musk is doing, and give no straight answer on child sex abuse. Just cryptic nonsense. Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude you have no issue with child sex abuse being shared on Twitter. And in cheering on what Musk is doing with Twitter, you are also cheering on his policies which allow child sex abuse to be shared.

Or you can clear it up for us, and give a clear comment expressing your concern about Twitter being fined for its failures on policing child sex abuse.

Well if thats true then thats a big black mark against him, Im just thankful for the part where people are able to have open mature debate.

So if Musk is replaced thats fine, as long as the philosophy of open discussion, which he instilled, stays. The opening of discussion still goes in one column of his book, regardless of what goes in the other. Thats for courts.

There's no way that piece of garbage is going to be allowed to be sold in Europe.

By and large the already small number of pick-up trucks purchased in Europe are bought by those with an actual professional need for them.

They are not the "lifestyle choice" vehicle they are in the US and no one who uses their pick-up for actual work is going to buy one of these.

This is genuinely chilling shlt. The operative phrase Musk is positioning himself to agree with above all is "Hitler was right" in the first tweet. The tweet he directly responds to is pushing Gemma O'Doherty level "great repacement", "Kalergi plan" insanity.

Will Israel go after him in the same way they went after Paddy Cosgrave (who is, to be clear, an unmerciful gobshite), despite what Musk has said here being exponentially more despicable than anything Cosgrave has ever said on any topic? My strong bet is no, they won't, because they fear him and the power he has. Cosgrave was small fry in comparison. We should all fear the power Musk has. He's an out of control headcase and he's a genuine Jew hater.

Musk presumably thinks he's Batman, when in reality he's Lex Luthor; or at least, wishes he was either of those two 'cos first you need the "genius" part of their descriptors lol.

Remember when Elon Musk was the cool PayPal guy who reinvigorated the space industry and pushed EVs away from Homers? Good times.

Drip drip drip; wonder at what point these big ticket/brand advertisers start truly hurting Twitter's ability to function at a quarterly level; Twitter Blue, or just the X rebrand itself will sit up there with New Coke as one of truly colossal company blunders.

Like a lot of tech people, all they do is recreate something that already exists. He took twitter and turned it into 4chan and its clones. With rising interest rates, it’s only a matter of time before he’s ruined.

The Tesla board must be apoplectic though. He is so closely associated with the brand, he could ruin it. He controls so much of the stock he could tank the price on a whim.

Bluesky is over a millions users now and once the journos find a viable alternative to twitter, it will really just be a chan message board for neo-nazis and crypto bros.

White House has just criticised Musk

The White House has accused Elon Musk of repeating a "hideous lie" about Jewish people, after the X owner appeared to respond approvingly to an antisemitic post on the platform.

On Wednesday, Mr Musk replied a post sharing an antisemitic conspiracy theory, calling it "actual truth".

Mr Musk has denied that the post was antisemitic.

But a White House spokesman said his endorsement of the post, which drew anger online, was "unacceptable".

"We condemn this abhorrent promotion of antisemitic and racist hate in the strongest terms," said White House spokesperson Andrew Bates.

He noted that the post Mr Musk was responding to referred to a conspiracy theory that motivated the man who killed 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018.

Remember when Henry Ford was lauded as a genius? Turns out he wasn't that smart, was just very good at getting smart people to do the legwork for him, whilst over time revealing that he was a raging conspiracy theorist and antisemite, who eventually got eviscerated in court for those very views.
