F2000 and TP Link archer

    Hi all

I have been with Eir the past 6 years and always adopted an "if it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude to broadband. I have Eir VDSL (€55 per month i think), with the phone line into the F2000 modem, and no voice or tv services. It was always reliable and it does what I need - work from home (video calls, logging in on a remote desktop connection) and streaming music and shows, one device at a time.

Well, I was hovering around the 15 device limit and finally went over it with a few more wi-fi enabled purchases.

I had a TP Link archer C60 modem lying around and plugged it into the Eir router, bridged the eir router, and it works fine. This is as far as my networking knowledge goes, and I only knew how to do it because I set up an Amazon Eero for a friend recently and it involved simply copying the PPPOE settings from the Vodafone router to Eero. Compared to the simple settings page of Eero, TP Link is something else!

My problem right now is my Eir broadband is only connecting to IPv4 and not IPv6.

    Settings as follows.

    IPv4 Connection type: dynamic IP

IPTV Lan ID: 10. 802.1Q tag disabled.

If I enable IPv6 Dynamic IP (SLAAC/DCHPv6) it doesn't actually connect to IPv6.

    That's part one.

There is also a setting for PPPOE but I couldn't get it working even with the following settings.

    IPv4 Connection type: PPPOE

    username/password: eir or eircom@eircom.net , password broadband1

IPTV Lan ID: 10. 802.1Q tag disabled or enabled....

It doesn't work even for IPv4 when I choose PPPOE let alone IPv6.

Note, all the above settings are in my TP Link archer router.

As I see it there are 4 variables. A dated service from Eir. A crap modem from Eir. A dated TP Link router. And my own lack of knowledge to do anything more fancy than googling, and using trial and error

So my setup feels a little temporary. Is there anything worth trying in the meantime?.. and if not, I'd be interested in knowing what's the main culprit that I can't log in to Eir with PPPOE details, and can't connect to IPv6. I'm not in the market at the moment to invest anything more expensive than the cost of a router, and possibly changing internet provider although as much as everyone hates Eir I haven't had a day's trouble with them.
