Recommendations for a 12 year old boy

For the past few years I have been buying my nephew Asterix and Tintin books which he has enjoyed. He also seems to really like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.

He'll be turning 12 later this year and I'm wondering what the next step would be. Are there graphic novels or more advanced comics aimed at this age category?

Though maybe the holocaust might be a bit heavy for a 12 year-old, but it is really good.

Yeah I heard about that one myself because of it being banned in some places in the USA but no I don't want to be going for that kind of content just yet.

Does your nephew like reading any particular type of prose books? That'd probably be a good way to identify titles or genres that might be a good fit.

If you're looking for ideas, Gosh! Comics in London have a pretty good list of kids' comics on their site. I've used it to find ideas for my nephews a few times.

Direction I went after Asterix and Tintin back in the day.

Specifically Dragon Ball in my case but Japan sure had different ideas of what would be considered suitable for a Japanese 12 year old in the '80s for me to comfortably suggest it. So I'd say Naruto (ninjas). Think My Hero Academia (superheroes) is the current big thing but I haven't read it. Or One Piece (pirates)?
