Buying a car from done deal

    Need a bit of advice.

I'm thinking of buying a car from done deal from a private seller in kells, Co Meath area.

I live an hour travel away and my mechanic would need to take 1/2 day off work, so not really an option.

What's the best car history check website to get some info on car tax/finance/nct etc

Has anyone used the AA inspection engineers?

Or another independent physical car check option pre purchasing a car

    Thanks

Stick the advert up, there’s often stuff you can spot for free before doing a paid check

Have you established if the seller owned the car for some time and is now selling it or if they are dealer on the side? Have they lots of other cars for sale on DoneDeal? Not a deal breaker but might help guide as to whether they are being legit or not with information provided.

If you check the Change Of Ownership page on Motortax.ie it will show if the ownership has been changed or car traded in to a dealer in the last 3 months so can help establish source of the car.

I'd check things like this first and then call about the car, then do a history check if you feel it's worth buying, will save a journey if anything flags up. I've used Cartell and Motorcheck.ie, I believe they source from the same data, I found the presentation on the motorcheck was better but much of a muchness.

It’s been years since I looked into getting an AA inspection but at the time I remember it was cumbersome - depending on the car, it might we’ll be sold by the time you arrange everything with the seller- and then you’ll be out of pocket as you’ll have paid AA in advance

Also look at the buying guide sticky on this forum- it might save you an hours trip. Once you’ve done that try and confirm as best you can with the seller the overall condition of the car- especially proven service record - you might save yourself a trip if you uncover somethnig in advance of travel
