    Hello

I know no one has a crystal ball but with everything going on atm, do you think it will speed up recruitment or have a negative impact?

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Narwahls

If claims or fines arise over the situation then that may hurt the budget even more and recruitment. Not sure how things will go

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

If the resulting payouts are as high as some journalists are reporting I honestly can’t see how they can continue to operate without bailout from Westminster.

Some media reporting as high as £100m, that’s almost 1/7 of their entire budget and that would be in addition to the existing shortfall.

Couple that with any potential resignations and the pre planned fall in numbers through attrition and it’s just an absolute doomsday scenario.

You'd imagine they'd have insurance for this kind of thing?

The real question is, do you want to join an organisation that don't seem to be able keep their people safe.

Morale was already low for current Psni officers. With more resignations likely I think their budget will have to Increase.

I can't see how it could have any sort of positive impact on us at all with the current situation. Would be great if things sped up but even if they do, we're walking into a job where morale is really low and a working environment that poses more challenges for new starts. If something isn't done soon to mitigate the ongoing issues, the psni won't be the psni for much longer.

Very concerning development coming out there that it’s confirmed data breach is in the wrong hands.

Feels like some sort of negative kick to the teeth everyday now!

  • Registered Users Posts: 301 ✭✭Si_zx10r

It was always going to get into their hands, the document was supposed to have been shared via WhatsApp when it happened. Between claims and investigations and whatever the ra can muster up to generate more fear amongst officers, it's going to take a long time to get past this. The estimated figures of £100m+ is probably not a kick in the teeth away from what it could end up costing.

I expect there will have to be a massive emergency injection to the budget and salary increases to prevent more Constables leaving. I hope they don’t bring 50:50 back as very against it in principle but I would also be very concerned if catholic representation fell below 20%. Malachi o Doherty did a good article on it in Belfast telegraph the other day

I think they should get in early and offer those with 3-5 years service a big pay increase and compensation for the breach that would be paid out over the next 10 years. Retention of experienced staff is an existential matter

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

To be honest I know 50:50 is a controversial policy but I’m in favour. The figure of 32% is now known to be skewed, with only 24% being NI Catholics.

Delayed recruitment, the shooting in February and now this will only serve to further reduce these numbers, which will only lead to further criticisms of the PSNI as unrepresentative of the population.

Hi, bit of a medical question here. My GP has refused to do my form after sitting on it for weeks and has now told me I’ve to request my medical history and get a private assessment from an occupational health GP to fill the form for me. Has anyone been in the same boat and if they know of one can they privately message me for suggestions of where to go? Any help would be a lifesaver, thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

Haven’t heard of that happening! Have you offered money yeah? I paid £20 I think and he got it back to me the next day.

Maybe call 101 and ask to be put through to OHW and ask for their advice on what’s acceptable, I’m sure they’ve heard it all before.

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Narwahls

Yeah stated I would pay and he had filled out my army one before which was more or less the same form. He basically said he couldn’t do it but I think he’s just choosing not to do it.

was hoping to see if anyone else had been in the same position and could point me to private GPs who do that service or OHW can, I’ve let them know and awaiting a response but this will be the second time I’ve delayed my medical and I doubt there’s any more this side of 2023 which is just a paij

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Narwahls

Spoke to OHW and confirmed that it is just my doctor that’s the issue and any GP can fill that out so he has basically thrown me under the bus here. Going to have to quickly find a private GP.

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

No other GP in the surgery you can request to see? I asked the receptionist who my GP was and she said Dr X but when the form came back it was completed by Dr Y who I’ve never met, sounds like that one’s just being an awkward git. Must be nice to turn down easy money!

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Narwahls

I asked if he knew of any who specialise in it or any in the surgery who might be able to and he said he didn’t. He’s completely left me out to hang here but hopefully Knightsbridge or the like offer something.

Stats on join psni updated btw

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

Damn that 150 is going downnn

  • Registered Users Posts: 301 ✭✭Si_zx10r

Looks worse than it is I think. Roughly 62% of the 2020 campaign will be placed once its exhausted. In the current campaign, theres approx 30% out/withdrawn from the people brought forward so its not too bad... I do think the % placed from 2021 campaign will be lower than 62% by time its exhausted

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Starsky1

Always good to see the stats updated 😄. At least there is movement

Hopefully something starts happening soon for our campaign, touching the 2 year mark since applying and been virtually no movement for 80% of us so far 😭

  • Registered Users Posts: 225 ✭✭Boneyard2002

Not sure if anyone has checked but as of 15th August the psni website updated. 61 people withdrew on 2021 , 49 remaining on 2020 recruitment

  • Registered Users Posts: 301 ✭✭Si_zx10r

Now we just need to hear that recruitment is being ramped up lol I just hope to god I don't fail on one of the remaining stages, not really worried about the fitness/medical more just the vetting which is beyond our control.

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

49 left in 2020 means probably 1 intake then second will be a mix of 2021 and 2020 deferrals!

Going to be watching the news like a hawk for next 6 weeks to see if there’s any developments politically, praying for a handshake few billion like last time lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 197 ✭✭crazyfire999

Anyone else waiting on vetting as a last remaining stage to come back?

Interesting thought, if they were to scrap this 2021 campaign, would you go for it again?

Personally, as much as I'm still interested, I don't think I would have it in my to go through it all again.....

I dont think I would apply again at this stage, if it doesn't work out this time I'm done. I'm turning 36, I don't want to be a pensioner when I join lol
