No the whole 440 new officers thing they said when we applied seems arbitrary. I think in theory it’s 440 NEW officers added to existing number, but they will keep campaign live as long as they need to keep replacing leavers, so all that pass managed stages/don’t drop out (usually 2/3 of merit list) will be recruited over X number of years - budget dependent.

    Arite cheers.

Just read on old boards about people saying “I got X on ML and I think thats my chances over for this campaign etc”

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

This was them announcing 600 new jobs in Feb 2020 but they’re still going through the merit list now over 1000 (including fails/dropouts). Out of our 1030~ probably around 400 will not go through.

    Anyone any inside info

    usually someone knows something lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

All I know is that they told me there’d be an update email in the New Year, though I expect the standard ctrl c ctrl v about significant budgetary pressures

will have to wait and see what this deal holds for PSNI

All I know is there’s more staff courses happening that they didn’t expect because budgets have been approved recently so could have potential for officers soon

They have exhausted 1509, 1710, 1810 and the 2010 merit lists I'm pretty sure

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭Anonymous4321

since there’s not much about recruitment to talk about… What specialist group if any do people think they would try go for after their 3yrs?

    Just want to say…

I have decided that I’m going to defer (if ever deemed appointable) my application for the PSNI. I’m still waiting for vetting to clear. It’s absolutely ridiculous and I’m now gone off it. I have spoken to some officers in the past number of weeks that have outlined the true hardships and struggles that current probationers are having to experience. Financial issues being the core problem for many. It seems silly for me to drop my salary (which would be significant) to join a force so damaged and broken at present to be met with poor conditions and everything else that comes with it. Including the dissident threat etc etc.

i’m in the process for the Met and completing my college of policing exams this week. Better pay and better conditions over at the other side. Northern Ireland is in a **** place at present and it’s going to be a while before it gets better it seems. Who knows, maybe someday I will have a change of heart and return and be excited again as I was at first back in 21/22.

I’m still waiting on my vetting to be cleared, so when and if that ever happens. I’m going to defer for the maximum time and see where that takes me.

Even though, It’s not recommended for security reasons, I actually made one or two friends from this and we kept in contact via WhatsApp etc which made it easier. Helped with the burden of waiting we have all had to endure. Also this community forum is great for keeping in touch and up to date. Keep at it. But for now, I want to wish everyone else the best of luck and I really hope it gets better and I hope you are not waiting too much longer. If you really want it, go for it and most importantly, stay safe folks 👍🏼

Completely understandable, 2 years and 3 months is a serious amount of time to wait, which would even challenge those with the upmost desire and determination for the job.

You are doing what is sensible and deferring to keep your options open.

I'm most likely going to defer too, just going to wait until induction day and make my mind up then. For me, its more the shift patterns, stress and cancelled rest days putting me off with now having a family. Wouldn't have bothered me at all 2 years ago when I applied.

Wish you the best of luck, Make sure to give us an update in due course!

“Wouldn't have bothered me at all 2 years ago when I applied”

This is a sad state of affairs and completely understandable. Scary how many committed candidates they’re going to lose who could have developed into good officers. Best of luck to anyone not taking the plunge when the time comes.

I'm just in process of buying a house and just bought myself a new car so it may affect my ability to join now but don't really care. Can't put your life on hold for something that may not even happen with the way things are going, we are all over 2 years older now and I imagine it will be 2+ more years before I am appointable which to me is ridiculous so I'm just getting on with it now and forgetting about it

I was talking to a mate who is a current officer. He said they are so understaffed at the minute and Morale is very low. Have sorta forgot about the campaign lately. Not sure if it will work out.

All systems go again with stormont 😂😂

  • Registered Users Posts: 21 williamhicks999

I would be surprised if there wasn’t an intake of about 100ish across April/may/June even without stormont. If it isn’t up and running though it might be the only intake of the financial year.

    I agree WilliamHicks.

Would line up with what Chief Con alluded to in Dec board meeting.

Found this FOI particularly interesting. Didn’t just hit with the usual “we currently have no plans to resume appointments.” The guy asking seemed to think a new campaign started in April but there you have it black and white that the CC expects April to be the turning point to maintain operational capability.

First bit of positive news in 2 years with the process

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

And buried in whatdotheyknow 2 pages in!

If this is the case and not a solo run from someone in the FOI department, this really should be emailed to us as an update.

Hi there, I was told the same thing, unfortunately they mean the financial year! so April 2024 unless things change with the hallions on the hill

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭Anonymous4321

Once this campaign is exhausted, a new student officer campaign will still be needed.

Head of Police Federation said they are losing around 60 a month now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

Yeah 60-70 he said on Nolan. That’s double what was on news last year, they were saying 1 a day on average

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭Anonymous4321

I think if Nolan kept quiet, the dup would have got the deal over the line (controversial i know😬) and we would be talking about a much different scenario.

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

I saw on another FOI as well, someone asked when Senior Leadership discussed recruitment. They gave a date in September and a date in October 2023, and the request asked what was discussed. They answered something along the lines of operational plans and logistics for the beginning of recruitment when budget allows. That tells me they’ve already probably provisional dates ready

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭Anonymous4321

Im sure the PSNI are busting to get people through the doors of GV, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they had plans etc in order for new campaigns / continuation of this campaign and when the money is made available, they can just hit the ground running.

Source for above - see answer 2.

Sorry for spam but figured everyone should be kept up to date on any whim of information as it’s a lonely old process. Also saw use of the boards in previous campaigns being very helpful so be nice if we could keep it active up to Garnerville and as more get processed!
