hi, we live in 97sq semi detached house built before 2011. Currently we have gas boiler. We got a quote for air to water pump after grant 12k. I thought its very expensive that includes pump, installation and new radiators. What’s the price for heat pumps?

Don't they provide up to 8K for a heat pump grant now? 12K seems a bit much on top of this! Assume they have done an assessment of each room and worked out the heat load and what sized rads to put in each room and are sized correctly. Did they measure each room & rad?

Anyway - always get 3 quotes and look for references and any comments about them online. SEAI have a list of registered contractors and inspect a lot of them but don't share which are good / bad! If you want you can watch some youtube videos from Heat Geek for background - they have a few dealing with how to spot a good contractor so a few timely questions should get you good answers, it not, watch out. Title: "Heat Pump Questions You MUST Be Asking | Consumer Advice"

Are they replacing your hot water cylinder too? There is a good example install of Daikan on ecobubl channel on youtube and it goes through their installation process, which was a gas combi boiler retrofit and what they do / questions they ask which is nicely narrated. Worth a watch - Title: "Can you swap a Gas boiler for an Air Source Heat Pump?"

They can certainly work but shouldn't cost as much - find out what the annual maintenance is too and factor that in. Doesn't seem that big a house for that price but maybe there's more at play?

SEAI will have an approved contractor list if you can give them a call with your location, they might share this with you? You could try the manfacturers local sites in Ireland for installers if you have a preference for one or two of them, they will also help you here, they want to make a sale after all!
