Windscreen claim effecting No Claim Certificate

I had to claim for Windscreen replacement after a chip from a truck damaged it.

Now I am up for insurance renewal. It says :

Number of Years Claim Free : 0

(After this it highlights the time when windscreen was replaced)

Percentage of NCD allowed: 50%

Also, in the details of policy it says: Was no Claim Bonus Affected by this Claim? Yes.

Does this seem right? It does not highlight anywhere that I have 8 years of No Claim Bonus. This windscreen replacement was my first claim in the last 8 years.

I have full comprehensive insurance with free windscreen replacement.

I've had a few windscreen claims and they've never affected a renewal. I got the same claims letter as you, it's the truth as you have made a claim in the last year but it has zero affect on your NCD. I tell every company when getting quotes and none have cared.

OP's problem is not with the renewal, it's if he tries to get a quote from someone else. Because he has a piece of paper which makes no mention of his 8 years claims-free (excl. glass) history.

It's says that they have a full NCD, that's the 8 years, and made a claim. The letter is correct and I've never had any issues sending it to my new insurance company.

It does not, the whole point of the thread is that the OP has a letter which says nothing about 8 years no claim.

It does NOT say that I have 8 years NCD. It actually says 0 years for Claim Free.

A windscreen claim is still a claim so stating you are 0 years claim free is correct. The fact your bonus is unaffected is a different matter. Your current insurer is stating you are on the maximum of their scale

If you need to move to another insurer whole will give extra benefit for 8 years, just string your previous NCBs together

I agree that windscreen is a claim. But what I am looking for is a record of 8 years NCB.

Getting previous NCBs lined up makes no sense that this current policy says NCB is effected.

You don't have 8 years since making a claim though, so getting a letter stating this would be inaccurate. Your letter is correct, you've full NCD and made a claim. Anything which you do on an insurance policy is a claim so if you get recovered, window replaced, car stolen or car burnt they'll all go down as claims on your record but won't affect your renewal or NCD with most companies.

A windscreen claim is a claim and you must notify insurers of this when they ask if you have had any claims. They usually want to know what was total cost of the claim also. Full disclosure us exactly that.

I totally agree it's a claim.

But my question is do I have 8 years NCD or not? As this is a requirement when searching for a policy elsewhere.

Also, the policy I have clearly states windscreen replacement will NOT effect your NCD.

In the past, they always mentioned: Years of NCD= X years.

Yes you have 8 years NCD. All the letters I've ever gotten only have 50% NCD yet I've only had a few windscreen claims in 20+ years of driving, my bike letter has 50% and I've never claimed in 10 years.

Anything above 50% NCD is a company bonus and like protected NCDs only applies to the company offering you it.

What they fail to add to this statement is " So long as you remain with this company "

Just the same as paying extra to insure your no claims bonus . That is only useful if you have a claim and are prepared to stay with the same company long term .

Yes thats true but if he wants to move to another company he does not have a full NCD . Also if filling in an application for another company he now has to admit to having a claim although only for windscreen .

He has a full NCD and other insurers will recognise the circumstances
