Reverse Osmosis or Carbon block

Hi

Looking for advice on if I should remove the Reverse Osmosis filter as I am looking at over €120 a year to service. I think its overpriced to be fair.

My current set up is that I am connected to the mains.

I have a water softener

Do I really need the Reverse Osmosis? or could I just get a normal drinking water filter with the carbon block in which I can change myself each year?

R.O. will remove certain elements that are 'dissolved' in the water. A filter is just a mechanical screen that will remove 'solids' bigger than the mesh size. So you can't compare R.O. with a filter, they do 2 completely different jobs. And carbon is used primarily to remove chlorine from the water. So it really depends on what you water stream is made up of, and what you want to remove form the stream.
