Biarritz was 43c at 4.30 local time. 27.4c at 5pm. Previous high temperature record for Biarritz was 40.6c set during the heatwave of 2003.

Turning out to be a nice afternoon here in Meath with spells of sunshine and feeling warmish in the sun. Temperature currently 16C.

Also 16c here with lovely evening sunshine, its like a dustbowl around these parts

Yeah lovely evening here in Meath. The full sun is out now and feeling very warm, thank God!

Strange day - thin high cloud this morning with some sunshine and felt mild enough then more general cloud and quite cool from 10.30am through to 1.30pm. This was followed by very hazy sunshine which was notably weak but got very gradually better during the afternoon. Skies cleared more generally after 4.30pm and good sunshine since 5.30pm. Mild, then cool, then pleasant again. Temperatures here in south Laois got over 16c, around 3.5c cooler than yesterdays max. Breezy now though.

Was looking at the river nore south of Kilkenny yesterday- looks shockingly low. Reckon you’d walk/wade across it relatively easily!

It’s been exceptionally dry here in the south east again this early summer. I was the north midlands/north west last week and the difference in weather and ground conditions was very stark.

So much for the 'chilly' day today. From 3pm the clouds broke up and the sun came out and it was a lovely evening up to darkness. It was warm enough to be in a tshirt as the sun made it feel warmer than 16C. Tomorrow could get to 18 or 19C quite widely so in sunshine it will feel warm and temperatures will steadily rise towards the mid twenties during the course of this week.

16C drop in half an hour?

Was there a thunderstorm or shower?

Either way, that's hot for a town on the Atlantic!

A sharp sea breeze suddenly set in. Wind had been southerly up to then, switching to westerly.

53 mm soil moisture deficit in some parts of Kilkenny. 48mm in Cork and pretty much 40mm for most of the southern half of the country. It's a north-south divide as you say, with the ground in most of the northern half of the country a lot less dry.

Yes though the rain in NW very light too. Wev had 36mm now so not a huge pile. The wind has dried mostly with rain in temporary usually morning bursts.

Wev had 12 windy or very windy days so far this Summer out of 18. Today is 13.

Surprisingly only 5 NW wind days out of 18 but 5 more W wind days. Hence the shocking temperatures. Only over 20c for an hour so far this June.

Yesterday there was 8 hours of sunshine and stayed dry most of the day therefore despite the gales 11-7 to the good days for Sligo.

It's not great out there this morning, windy as usual and a bit chilly.

The forecast though is for sun to appear later on like yesterday, so hopefully that happens.

Can’t get over how cold it is here in the West. It’s June for Christ sake 🥲

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,299 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Cool, breezy and slate grey skies overhead.

Another windy and cool day here in Leitrim. Working outside with a thick jumper on, in the middle of June!

Met eireann forecast for coming week in mid West is depressing. Nothing but cloud and temperatures in the teens. When will this end

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,087 ✭✭✭pauldry

    Probably September

Though wev had a few nice dry days in Sligo and not much rain its been very cold. The wind makes it worse. 17 or 18c would be fine and maybe wel get that in July but 11 and 12?

So far in Sligo out of 19 days (coz today wont) wev had 3 over 18c 1(hour) over 20c and 0 over 21c

Really happy I live in Ireland - could not be dealing with 40+ temperatures. Yes, would be nice if there was a bit more sun and low 20’s but I think we should count our blessings that we don’t have that heat.

delighted for ya. Some of us find 13 degrees grey slate skies equal hard to deal with.

Tomorrow looks decent enough in the mid west with much of Clare, Galway and Roscommon getting to 20 or 21C possibly in sunshine. Still looks chilly along the north-west tho. The coming week should generally be mild to warm but Tuesday may be one of the cooler days of the week with Monday and Thursday possibly the warmest days.

I would make the most of the weather this week from tomorrow to Thursday as it should be mainly dry apart from Tuesday. A chance things could turn much cooler and very unsettled from next weekend and into the final week of June. June could finish on a notably cool end much like the first week of June, but hopefully we will see a moderation of this cool spell in the models before Friday.

Where did I say I liked that? Just that it’s better than extreme dangerous temperatures of 40+ degrees. Anyway, we are all different sure! Hopefully things will change in July :-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,417 ✭✭✭✭road_high

Will we be getting a nice drop of rain in that unsettled period? Some of us really need

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,411 ✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Its been very dry too. No excuses to get out in the wonderful summer outdoors.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,653 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Let's hope that rain comes, some places badly need it

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,905 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

yes currently looking like it could turn very unsettled from next Friday but I am hoping this will get downgraded. The past month hasn't been great and many of us are hoping for things to warm up and settle down properly rather than the current mixed setup. The last thing we want is an Atlantic conveyer belt setting up this early into the summer as that sort of setup can last for an entire summer once it starts and the rain gets old after about a day. August will likely be a wet month as it usually is every year so hoping for a big improvement in the weather for July before we get to August.

I know we badly need rain for a few days and then kindly clear off again. Problem is once it starts…!

Was up the M9 motorway yesterday from Kilkenny to Dublin on a bus and it’s noticed how some crops are really starting to struggle, like Maize in particular

A few glimpses of sunshine in Donegal this past few days but mostly dull and breezy again. Maybe it’s been sunnier around the coastal areas usually is. May was poor here, june has been drier but still very dull.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,976 ✭✭✭appledrop

Ah lads will you stop wishing for rain, its bad enough to cope with wind and cold I can't deal with rain aswell.

It's Ireland the rain will always come eventually.

Didn't do is any harm when we had no rain for weeks in 2018.

Everywhere else in Europe gets a decent summer and copes for months and months without rain so I don't buy the argument at all that we need more rain in the summer.

I’d be worried for agriculture in the south east- the last thing we need is a fodder crisis on top of everything else. These things can potentially play havoc with food prices as well.

It depends on here in the country you are- was up in Cavan last week and it felt like a different country and understandably no one wants more rain
