Best Way in Ireland to sell LPs

I want to sell my record (LP) collection. I've catalogued it on Discogs - well mostly as I may have gotten the releases wrong on some of them. There is obviously some junk and also some more valuable ones in it. I've no real interest in selling through Discogs and posting the stuff. I'd prefer if any item was collected.

There are a couple of hundred items from the 70s through to the 90s and mostly of a rock orientation.

Is Adverts a good way by maybe posting a link to the Discogs list and allowing interaction that way? Or is there some other market place online or otherwise that is better suited?

Any tips appreciated!

The two main ways to sell records are:

1 - In Bulk.

You sell as a big lot or some smaller lots. The buyer takes everything in the lot weather they want it or not. They get a better price per record but will inevitably get duplicates and/or things they don't want. Most bulk buyers are resellers.

Benefit to you is you get rid of them quicker and less work. Con for you is you get a fraction of what you could if sold individually.

2 - Sell piece by piece

Buyers get to pick through and only buy the ones they want.

You need to price every record based on market value/condition. Can be worth it if you have any rare/collectable items (think worth 30 euros or more).

Benefit is you can make a lot more money this way. Cons are it takes a lot more work and can take a lot more time also. Often you'll need to travel to record sales and pay for a table, haul the stuff and flog it that way. Or post a gang of ads online. You could make up a spreadsheet and send to people wo show interest. Update as things get sold.

A hybrid of the two is sort through and pick out the top quality/rare/ sought after stuff and individually price those and then have a series of 10, 5, 2 euro bins. Still requires sorting but a bit less work that 2.

Actually, I think discogs might have an 'export to spreadsheet' function now?

That's kind of what I figured but hoped maybe there was some local online forum in Ireland for trading.

I sold my CD collection a few years ago on Adverts by just uploading a list and letting people choose.

I'll check how to export the list later on today and then decide whether to proceed or maybe just store them for now.

Selling in bulk is easiest but expect to get 30% max of re-sale value.

If selling on Discogs, you need to ensure what what you are selling is properly listed under the correct release variant or pressing. Otherwise you are violating their terms & conditions and will get negative feedback if somebody buys an LP and it isn't what they expect.

Yes - that's kind of what I figured. I have to balance my time trying to figure out the exact releases against price. Hence looking for something local where the buyer can check for himself and be happy with what he gets.

I'm still contemplating it! Might just store them for another few years for when I might have more time to listen to them - of course might be deaf by then!

Bit late to this, but one other option is to put them up for auction. Not sure I can mention them by name, but there is a specialist vinyl and musical collectibles auction house in the UK who I've bought from before, might get a better price than selling in bulk. I'll Pm you there name.

I know some record shops buy and sell second hand, could be worth checking if there is anything local to you that might take them from you.

If you have a discogs link or a spreadsheet of what you have, I'd love to take a look.

Thanks for that - I had a look at the link you sent - they are not cheap and getting them to the UK would be a problem for me at the moment but I'll keep them in mind!
