Disappointing defence and chase there. Thought JOB did well to put pressure on and slow it after his kick. Defence was porous after that.

That's really really poor from multiple players

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,133 ✭✭✭testtech05

Maori completely butchered that 3 on 1 and still scored.....

  • Our lord and saviour Ciaran Frawley has mastered the revolving door impression

On the plus side, this is increasingly likely to become my case in point for the 'throw caution to the wind' start all the 'shiny new thing' players crowd.

This can't be the same Wayne Barnes that reffed the Leinster v LAR game. If it is then he must be completely confused about the rules of the game from week to week.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

One of JOB’s better kicks and chase, but a couple of lads (including Earls this time) really poor after that….

Someone needs to tell O'Brien to stop kicking the ball to them

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

Utterly embarrassed. Some of these are not even close to international quality against a mix and match Māori side.

Some of the pack looked absolutely gassed there...barely jogging on the chase back.

Pretty poor showing, the aimless kicking away of the ball constantly as frustrating as the number of penalties given away

  • Registered Users Posts: 762 ✭✭✭starkid

Possibly the worst performance of any Irish team?

In the overall scheme of things it doesn't matter. but you'd worry how leggy they look.

Yeah there's not a chance we win a test here if thats the general levels of energy.

But you'd probably only take 4 players from this side. (definitely doesn't include JOB)

He's not alone by any means..

Not a single player has advanced their cause in that half

That kick was absolutely fine, pity none of his team mates could be arsed breaking past a jog.

I thought the same thing. Then I reckoned LAR were probably better at making things a mess on d than our 2nd team

This is not JOB's game, it's just not working for him today, every time he touches the ball we concede a try. He's following a game plan but his execution has been poor.

Have, Hume, Timoney even been mentioned?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭Shehal

We've literally just sat back and let the Maori play for 40 minutes, we've contributed nothing to this match for 40 minutes straight.

Woeful, that pack is so weak, our backs are playing terrible, JOB alone has been at fault for 2 and possibly 3 tries, some of these lads do not deserve caps, pathetic, on top of that Barnes is giving them everything. We are getting hammered by an average team here

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 10,603 Mod ✭✭✭✭aloooof

Coombes and McCarthy going well but we’ve been really poor beyond that…

JOB’c kicking and fielding has been poor imo, and we’ve been over-compensating/over-folding for Casey in defence a couple of times which is causing gaps.

Both made decent half breaks in the initial moments of game.

Jimmy O Brien is kak, and a four try run in has given Leinster fans some weird perception of him. He's bang average. ANd its laughable how Leinster fans just think anything in blue is magic or can be worked into something greater than their ceiling.

He's not Keenan mark 2. HK is a special player. JOB seems similar and played 7s. but he's levels below HK ability.

On natural ability and excluding Aki you'd take Hume, Coombes, Casey, Frawley from this side for the immediate future.

Maori building a lead in typical fashion. Ireland trying to slow the ball isn't working out. Barnes is having none of it.

Irish heads have dropped I think.

Thank god I've got to go to work now. Jaisus.

Our back 3 are doing their best to play themselves out of the test team.

It's very frustrating because we look good in the rare moments we get possession.

    Where is a Mike Haley?

We have a centre at our half and a wing deputing at full back.

That was an utterly atrocious half of rugby, with almost zero positives to take from it.

Keith Earls has been an utter embarrassment in that half; ball watching, missing straight up tackles, giving up on the chase, quitting before that try at half time assuming it had been knocked on.

Jimmy O'Brien has kicked the ball away badly and made bad decisions virtually every time he touched the ball.

Bundee Aki badly shown up for his lack of pace by Josh Ioane on multiple occasions.

Zero control from Frawley and Casey. Every thing Casey does looks unplanned and frantic.

Pack is completely callow and devoid of leadership.

Wayne Barnes' inability to referee the breakdown is infuriating, and his ignoring the Maori repeatedly clearing out yards past the ruck, but why can Irish packs never learn to adapt?

Only Irish players for me to emerge for me with any modicum of credit are Gavin Coombes who has looked physical and Kieran Treadwell who has showed a lot of effort, albeit making some sloppy errors a long with it.

Discipline and defense is what's killing us. We're all over the place in those departments. Guys like Prendergast, Loughman and Treadwell and McCarthy too eager to make a big impression. JOB has been poor too.

In attack we actually look pretty good. But we've had so little of the ball we've hardly been able to show it.

Can’t blame the lack of cohesion when the opposition are in the same boat. Too many lads playing individual games, McCarthy and Prendegast running around like headless chickens.

Maoris putting two lads back for kicks, one to take the tackle and the other to run it back.
