I’m seeing conflicting messages when searching how to add card on Apple Pay. It looks like it’s not possible for juniors under 16 as they can’t have an Apple ID but there are plenty of news articles saying that it was possible for juniors from 7-16 now being able to add since late last year. Does it work for anyone? I can’t add via wallet or Revolut

Tried it with my 13 year old daughter the other week, and it didn't work.

Apple say "If you're under the age of 13, Apple Pay isn't available and you can't add a card in the Wallet app. Age varies by country or region." (footnote on this support page https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204506, emphasis mine)

Turns out that the age limit in Ireland is 16.

I think the thing about age 7-17 is just for setting up the Revolut junior account itself, not adding the card to Apple Pay.

Here's two quotes from this article about it:

Fintech company Revolut has announced that it has added Apple Pay to its Revolut Junior offering, which is aimed at children between the ages of 7 and 17.

(meaning the Revolut Junior offering his aimed at 7-17 yos, not the Apple Pay integration).

    and

We should point out that Apple Pay does have an age restriction for use. This limit imposed by Apple varies by country or region.

In Ireland the age limit for use is 16 years of age. This is because to use Apple Pay you must have an Apple ID and the age limit to set up an Apple account in Ireland is indeed 16.

So, if your child is between the ages of seven and 15, Apple Pay won't unfortunately be available and you won't be able to add a Revolut Junior card in the Wallet app.

Not sure what they mean by not been able to have an Apple ID as they do have one. Also here’s an article from rte about it. Anyway looks like it doesn’t work for them at the moment.

There's two different restrictions at play here: Apple's and Revolut's.

In Ireland, children under 16 can't create their own Apple ID - a "family organiser" has to set up a child account. And they have certain limits, one of which is access to Apple Pay. So they have an Apple ID, but it's not the same as one belonging to someone over 16.

The age limit varies in different countries:

Some Apple ID settings and features work differently for children under the age of 13. For example, a child under the age of 13 can't create an Apple ID without permission and consent from a parent or guardian. The minimum age for account creation may vary across countries and regions as follows: under 14 in Austria, Bulgaria, China mainland, Cyprus, Italy, Lithuania and Spain. Under 15 in Czech Republic, France and Greece. Under 16 in Brazil, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia and Slovenia. Under 13 in all other countries and regions. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204506

So in some counties, 13 year-olds can use create their own Apple ID and use Apple Pay as an adult can. But in Ireland they can't.

Then on the Revolut side, they announced that they'll let Revolut Junior account holders use Apple Pay. Previously, no Revolut Junior accounts could use Apple Pay, regardless of whether Apple allowed them at their age. And you have to be aged between 7 and 16 to have one of those accounts. But that doesn't mean that every 7-16 year old that has Revolut Junior can actually use Apple Pay - it just means that Revolut aren't imposing the restriction. In some countries, 13 years olds can. In some, it's 14 or 15. In Ireland and a number of other countries, it's 16. The RTE article is a bit lazy in reporting that "Revolut Junior users aged between 6 and 17 will now be able to make payments using Apple Pay." This isn't correct. The fact is that Revolut removed the restriction on age, but Apple did not.
