Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Same, switched over to the Inter game after about that long. For neutrals, their games only ever really get interesting to watch if they've fallen behind and have to chase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,124 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

The key is to see if Pep has started 8 midfielders and a goalkeeper as no.9

Those are the games you know it's gonna be a disaster (not for the neutrals)

    Great chance missed by Henrichs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Gvardiol equaliser! Game on.

Porto down to ten. Big disappointment if Inter can't get a home goal.

    Lukaku scores!

I think RB have been way too tame. Home game CL playoff and after 90 they hadn't had a single yellow card. I think thats actually ridiculous. When you play someone like City you need them on their toes.

Ah just now. First yellow. 90th minute.

Pep's attitude with subs is so so weird - if they're winning, he'll make a rake of changes to rest people, but if they're in search of a goal, he so often refuses to do anything to change the game! They've had 20 minutes here since the equalizer to try to go for the lead, with top quality on the bench like Foden and Alvarez, and he just ignores them.

Inter v Porto game was very enjoyable

Still all play for. Both teams are easy on eye.

    Serie A - 3 wins from 3.

    Premier League - 1 draw, 3 defeats.

Love to see an Italian side win it this year, ideally Napoli.

I reckon most neutrals would go with Napoli - I certainly would. They have been playing some great football this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,117 ✭✭✭jacool

First time since 2013/14 that the EPL has zero wins in first leg.

Back then the teams that travelled away for the second legs, Arsenal and Man City were knocked out, while the return home legs saw Chelsea and Manchester United qualify for the quarter-finals.

Seems the Dortmund bus got in late so the Chelsea game will be delayed by 10 minutes.

That was awful from Sterling. Looks like he was offside anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Was likely offside anyway - but bloody hell what a butchering of a chance from Sterling there! Somehow contrived to turn a 1-on-1 into a situation where he didn't even get a shot off.

Also, it's mad to see a stadium look far more intimidating for the home side than the away one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That was brutal from Sterling, through on goal, stuttered and didn't even get a shot off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,700 ✭✭✭Gusser09

Surely a foul by Can on Havertz. A clear push in the back.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Jarhead_Tendler

I agree with Ronnie (heaven help me). That push into Havertz back is a penalty. They never get given though once they attempt the shot.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,937 ✭✭✭omega man

There was contact but no push. Good decision.

Very positive football from Dortmund. Going forward the whole time with purpose. Proper CL pace to it too. Should be a good game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Jarhead_Tendler

So close from Havertz. Not sure how it stays out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    So close from Havertz.

Rafa Silva goal for Benfica. 3-0 now on aggregate. Looks like they're heading through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That was a good strike from Havertz. Hits the upright, spins across the goal and out wide on the other side. Very unusual.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,248 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Half an inch to the left and it goes in. Some spin off the post to go across the goal and then out of play behind the goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Lovely solo goal by Goncalo Ramos.

Great finish from Havertz, but Sterling was offside. Sterling is having a stinker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,742 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

How do commentators still not understand why they keep the flag down for close offsides in the VAR era?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,378 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

That was some clearance by Koulibaly 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

I'd have liked to have seen the lines on that Sterling chance... had been way offside, but had gotten himself back just about level for when the ball was actually played. Reckon he was still off, but was very very tight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

The ref must have lost his yellow card. Chelsea players should be booked by now, repeated cynical fouling

Edot: Oh look he found it, for a Dortmund player, for time wasting over taking the free kick. Ridiculous.

They just showed the line on RTE there now and he was well off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Sterling scores, lucky after a fresh air kick, gets a favourable rebound off the defender and couldn't miss. He's still awful.

Sterling scores. Reus should be doing much better there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Yeah just saw it - was well off in modern terms alright (though still only half a body width).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Bloody hell, it's taken him enough opportunities, but sterling finally scores. Really shouldn't have been allowed to get the second bite at it though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,937 ✭✭✭omega man

Deserved in fairness. Dortmund look Very average.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,858 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

Yeah even this goalshy Chelsea should manage to find a winner in the second half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,661 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

Dortmund reserve goalie looks very shaky/nervous. Got caught a few times in nomansland. Early on when Sterling was through (I have no idea how Sterling finished so weakly there) and later on after a few crosses too.

Dortmund could have had 1 or 2 themselves but overall should be happy only being 1:0 down. Looking forward to end-to-end stuff for the 2nd half.

This is such a soft penalty, if it's given for Chelsea. They take so long, that should tell you it's not a penalty. He's going to give it.

He has given it. The cross was 3 foot away from the Dortmund player.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,607 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

This is VAR reacting to the crowd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,161 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

That is never a penalty, he just kicked it as his hand. VAR gets more right than wrong but these repeated slow motion replays of somebody kicking a ball at someone's hand from point blank range do my head in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Oof, that looks a very very harsh call...

And not showing the replays in real time is insane - slow-mo totally warps the incident and makes it look like he has time to react, which he just doesn't from that distance.

    <edit>

    Phew! Justice done!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Brilliant! Missed penalty from Havertz. Justice done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,124 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Is that lad ever gonna score again.

Well he is getting another chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

This is beyond a joke. Chelsea are going to be allowed retake the penalty. The referee and VAR are having a mare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Silly that the pen gets retaken for encroachment if they were both at it.

  • Site Banned Posts: 20,685 ✭✭✭✭Weepsie

That's the shittest decision I've seen in a long long time. That's criminal.

ah ffs.. a load of chelsea lads encroached as well...

<edit> the explanation on BT makes more sense - that it was an encroaching player who cleared the ball. Still though, kinda reckon if both teams encroach, that it's just a free for all.
