The forward situation is a joke. especially in the draft format with a 12 team league

PM sent with details of a league I run outside of boards

Is Julian Alvarez in with a chance of being a realistic option as 3rd choice forward?

0.5 more expensive than Solanke, same price as Mitrovic and 0.5 cheaper than Toney and Martial. Ok he's going to get less minutes than any of those but if Pep is saying he doesn't expect Haaland to be fully fit for another couple of weeks there's a chance he moves up the rotation nightmare list.

With Jesus and Sterling gone and Bernardo playing deeper in the midfield more often than not, it leaves Foden, Grealish, Mahrez as the other options for the wide spots up front. Alvarez played a good bit on the right side up front for River Plate so he's an option there instead of being stuck behind Haaland for the central spot each week.

At 6.5 million and a goal today off the bench he's got to be worth considering?

I love the draft format of the FPL.

I run a 12 team draft league with a group of friends. we had our draft today. I came 10th in the draft list :(

Ended up with the following side in the end. Could have been better, could have been worse. It really gets tricky towards the last few rounds.

I'm praying Ronaldo leaves Man Utd so that Martial gets regular game time :D

Leicester’s backup keeper Iverson, is most likely gonna start, with Schmeichel likely being sold and Ward being injured. He’s been playing pre season too. It’s very annoying that he’s not in the FPL game yet. He would have been 100% 4m at the start of the game. I’ve a feeling they’ll bring him in as 4.5 now though.

Trying to find this on Discord and can’t find it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,315 ✭✭✭✭Father Hernandez

Looks like Ward will play tonight for Leicester in a behind closed doors game so there is hope yet for the 4.0 starting GK.

FPL aside, it's quite weird Schmeichel is leaving so suddenly and for Nice as well. Thought he'd have another season in him yet for Leicester.

I want a third City attacker for Bournemouth in gameweek 2 along with Cancelo and Haaland and am considering gambling on Alvarez.

I only have 7.5 left for my final midfielder spot so can’t get to Foden/Mahrez or an 8m placeholder for GW1 and don’t trust Grealish.

So I’m thinking of getting Neto and using the extra 2m to get Alvarez on the bench for GW1 and then starting him GW2. There is huge haul potential in that game v Bournemouth.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

No a fan of Alvarez at all, I see him getting 20 or 30 minutes most weeks, especially early on as they look to settle in Haaland. Of course enough to get a goal perhaps but even then it'll be with a 1pt appearance and likely no bonus. I think it'll be 1, 5, 1, 1, 5 at best for him over the first 5 fixtures. Someone like Mitro I could easily see getting, 2, 9, 2, 9, 2 maybe even more.

The fact he takes up one of what good very possibly be an essential 3 City spots is another big negative. It's at best wait and see for Alvarez imo.

Mitro is a great shout at 6.5 imo. Don't quite have space for him right now but there's always time to change before the deadline. Martial at 7 is definitely worthy of consideration too if not going for Rashy or Sancho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,977 ✭✭✭Trimm Trabb

I thought he might start on the right of the front 3. But having said that your post gave me enough food for thought to reconsider. The fact Leicester are offering a 4.0 goalkeeper combo means I’ve got the extra 0.5 for an 8.0m midfielder - Maddison has the best GW1 fixture but Newcastles interest is putting me off, I want Foden for GW2 but not sure he’ll start next week.

I did see Mark Sutherns was talking about Alvarez for GW2 so not completely ruling it out yet.

Is Williams the only 4m defender on the go? Was thinking of doubling up on them if there was another guaranteed starter as I'm going all out on forwards.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,685 ✭✭✭sheroman01

Rumors of Bailly going to Fulham. Possibly another 4m defender if it goes through. Leno in goals boosts their defence too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,685 ✭✭✭sheroman01

I didnt see this and actually just posted that Bailly could be going to Fulham (rumoured), and he's 4m. Patterson (RB for Everton) is a likely candidate for replacing Coleman and is 4m. I'd say it's quite likely he gets a lot of gametime.

Anyone take a stab at predicting the Arsenal starting 11?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

    iverson is in now.

4m for himself and Ward. Nice way to get some cash back in the bank unless Leicester go chase another keeper

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,850 ✭✭✭✭Ace2007

Window doesn't close until 1 September, I wonder would Leicester look at bringing in the likes of Foster - be on a free, wouldn't cost that much on wages and has tonnes of PL experience in comparison to Ward/Iverson. The risk of having the two of them, would be Leicester signing another keeper and then it's probably going to be a waste of two transfers to get a playing keeper, assuming you don't have free funds.

Leno is good shot stopper, can see him racking up the saves. Can't believe they're starting another PL season with Tim Ream in defence though.

howdy all, good to be back after the break and by god did I need it after that last season, I felt exhausted by the final day! Im going to try invest a little less time in it this year as last season became all consuming at times which was my own fault but I hate losing money to mates so I wanted to be sure of the mini leagues wins lol

Only got back looking at FPL this week and havent done a ton of research so reckon my team will be template enough. Though I am thinking of tripling up on Arsenal in the hope they get off to a flying start. Everyone has Jesus but I think Martinelli and Saka are worth punts too.

Is anyone here starting the season with Darwin? All the talk seems to be of Kane or Haaland up top.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭Pogue eile

    Ramsdale

    White Saliba Gabriel Zinchenko

    Saka Thomas Xakha Odegard Martinelli

    Jesus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,733 ✭✭✭Cartman78

Skimmed that and thought it was a GW1 draft and my only thought was it was a bit Arsenal heavy 😆

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,015 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

Very close to going with Darwin, but will probably chicken out until he starts firing.

Trying to decide on my final City player.

A - 5-3-2 with Dias and 1.5m in the bank

    or

B - 4-4-2 with Foden and zero in the bank

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,699 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

yeah I think Im in the same camp, like he did look good in his cameo v City in the Charity Shield but if he doesnt fire immediately and Kane or Haaland do I would be playing catch up early doors. Will likely play it safe with one of those but be ready to hop on Darwin if necessary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,699 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

hi kloppo, good to see you back.

Would you consider spending 1m less and get Kyle Walker instead of Dias and then upgrade a different position with the 2.5m ITB. You still get points from Citys clean sheets and the 2.5m upgrade elsewhere should more than cover Dias' attacking returns. Who are your other City players, Cancelo & Haaland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,850 ✭✭✭✭Ace2007

If Darwin was guaranteed starter, I would prefer him over Jesus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,191 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

He will be eventually I would think. It's just when it will happen is the question.

    Ya. Cancelo and Haaland.

No interest in Walker for some reason.

Im happy with my team and my plans but I can’t decide on Dias or Foden.

Been burnt sooooo many times by City mids so I’m leaning to Dias and the 1.5m in the bank.

edit - but as some that’s owned Foden lots in the past I’m afraid of missing out if he’s outta the blocks quickly. I did have Mahrez in my team permanently until last week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,699 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

yeah Foden has a much higher ceiling than Dias if he goes off on one. But always tricky to know when that is with Pep and rotation, I think I owned Foden for about 7 weeks last season and got very little out of him. If you're going to attack the start of the season though Id take the punt on him over Dias

Bumped the annual Zarquon pay league thread a few times to try and get someone to takeover.

Didn't have any takers is there anyone who runs a pay league or the annual free league who could use the Zarquon name in it, be a shame to lose it.

Someone posted in the RMT thread that Jesus is the most owned player in fpl history..

Sam Greenwood can't be far behind.

    Best of luck to all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,850 ✭✭✭✭Ace2007

He's a good bit behind in fairness, Jesus is 77%, Greenwood is 24%, there are 12 players between them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,303 ✭✭✭COH

Almost 8 million players already. Crazy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,191 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

More players have Gabriel Jesus selected this GW than played the game 2 seasons ago! Crazy.

I wonder how many of them will kneejerk into selling him this weekend, especially if other assets start firing.

Benteke has left Palace to join DC United. Farewell to an FPL legend!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,396 ✭✭✭Invincible

    Conor Coady signs for Everton.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,305 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Prodston

Can we take a moment to bid farewell to Timo Werner? Like a moth to a flame, I'd still get him in hoping the regression to the mean would mean a million goals in one game! So it's probably for the best he's gone

My Da had to point out that I’ve only beaten him twice in the last 9 years.

Of course I did point out that he’s retired and I had to balance family life, work life, personal life, health AND fantasy football.

    so this year…

    I must CRUSH HIM

    😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,592 ✭✭✭patmac

Excuses, excuses, you should know by now that fpl is and always will be the number one priority in your life or your just another casual.

It’s great to see this forum buzzing again after a few years in the doldrums, always was a great place for fpl.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,083 ✭✭✭Chesty08

Similar. I done well last year but put a lot into it.

I didn’t do great last week & Done Kane - Haaland while watching City. Haven’t looked at anything til now as no point , I’m not doing a -4 this early. I’ll be spending less & less time on it this year tho the Workd Cup will be a great opportunity to break from it.

I went Darwin & Salah from the start and I am happy with that decision

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,459 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

Assuming Sessegnon starts this weekend who would you start

    Sess away to Chelsea

    Bailey home to Everton

    Jonny home to Fulham

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,749 ✭✭✭Dr. Bre

Spurs always concede at Chelsea so it’s between other 2 . I would lean towards Bailey

    I'd chance Bailly too.

Same reason as Dr Bre above re Sessegnon. Bailly did look good pre season and think Villa will be more up for it the weekend in front of a home crowd. Would expect Bailly to start too, one of the better ones last week at least.
