True but that is presuming that one of the two Sentinel satellites captures the area you live in and that the weather is clear enough. For the sake of a couple of minutes I'd take photo's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,586 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

Great idea. Put on location and date details on the phone and this will certify the pictures

Technically at present they cannot use satellite imagery to check for non adherence so it cannot be used for adherence either.

What are lads opinions of a field that is say 8 acres in size and half of it went to strong for grazing so was baled up . Would lads chance putting in the whole parcel or just say that half the field was done and let the eye in the sky pick it up ?🫣🫣🫣🤐

    Claim for 4acres.

A double the difference penalty in this instance would see you owing the department for 4acres worth rather than you getting any payment.

Why would you act the bollix it's money for jam

"@BassReeves - Technically at present they cannot use satellite imagery to check for non adherence so it cannot be used for adherence either."

Interesting - Where did you see that?

They are including it in the next round of CAP and indicated they could not use imagery as evidence in the last CAP

Application mentions only 1 and 2nd cut. Can one out in a 3rd cut?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭dzer2

Not much of a fodder crisis if your making 3rd cut

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭J.O. Farmer

No only 2 cuts, I think the logic being anyone who might do a 3rd cut would already have been saving a lot of fodder anyway.

Would there be many outside big dairy farmers doing 3rd cuts anyway.

The idea was probably to encourage a first or second cut on farms that might not otherwise this year with cost of fertiliser.

Exactly, paid for something that has to be done anyway

Thought there was no such thing! Like a lot of schemes introduced to cover some new expense the payment soon disappears but the cost remains. Years ago TB test was free, tags were free ( others too ) , some money was given for a year or two - we're paying for both of these now. I

It is but I suppose as @I says posted there is always a catch although I can't see it in this scheme. However those of us that have applied (irrespective of whether we get the full payment or not) have demonstrated how many hectares are used (by non dairy farmers) for fodder production up to the maximium allowed. I know on our farm it doesn't feed the livestock units that we carry which maybe is something in the future (climate/methane mitigation etc) that could come back to bite us, iykwim.

Has the price of fertiliser, wrap and diesel been forgotten already? While this payment is very welcome, it goes nowhere near offsetting the additional costs of making silage this year…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭Grueller

It would have to have been bought anyway. The payment should help offset them a bit. Gift horse and all of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,006 ✭✭✭tellmeabit

Ha. Limited ground that can be cut so trying for quality and try take 3 cuts. Won't make the 10 ha total for get the full 1k. Will still have to buy bales. I know I should cut numbers to make life easier. Quality to help weanlings and cows

All that's wrong patsy is they told every man & his dog about a thousand £ up for grabs & to apply for it anyway & now it won't be that much atall atall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 651 ✭✭✭Silverdream

I wonder what type of checks they will do for the scheme. Could it be a case of them counting the bales or measuring the silage pit? Either way I'd say it would be impossible to do as it would all depend on the bales/acre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,424 ✭✭✭Robson99

Don't think there will be many checks... don't think there will be anywhere near the €1000 either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,316 ✭✭✭tanko

There are about 100,000 farmers eligible to apply for this scheme, so far approximately half of them have.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,057 Mod ✭✭✭✭Siamsa Sessions

56,000 is the magic number. If less than that apply, there’s €1,000 for everyone. If more than that apply, then it’s €56m divided between applicants

Just wondering what will the the average hectares applied for and how many farmers will be under the magic 10 ha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 861 ✭✭✭Sugarbowl

making a 3rd cut here as we don’t have enough fodder…

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,057 Mod ✭✭✭✭Siamsa Sessions

Another 17,000 farmers will have to apply in the last 10 days of the scheme before the 56,000 figure is reached. 38,737 applied up to 22-July and next Tues, 2-Aug is the deadline. Assuming the Dept don’t extend it.

Nearly 30,000 applied in the last few days before the deadline so approx. 70,000 farmers applied in total.

If everyone applied for the max. 10Ha, then we’ll get around €800 each

So that means they will have approx 5600 inspections to do. This could slow things up to get the monies out

Still curious as to how they can do inspections. How would you prove to them what you cut and when?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,189 ✭✭✭ruwithme

Be a pot of tea & biscuits inspection I'd imagine. So always keep a nice pack in the cupboard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭Nekarsulm

That's mainly because every Farm Planner rang every client and asked " how many acres did you cut" and stuck in the application on their behalf...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭mr.stonewall

Some might be provide evidence of how the fodder was produced, contractor invoice, maybe evidence of plastic bought, etc. That could be for the admin check.

The tea and biscuits, one is milage for the boys aswell and count the fodder in the yard. Could double up as a cross compliance check for sfp. 😫😫

i applied for about 8Ha because I couldn’t guarantee I’d get a second cut in spots depending on growth and weather.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,057 Mod ✭✭✭✭Siamsa Sessions

We're all getting €100/Ha and average application was for 7.6HA

We'd normally be complaining about too much rain but we've had a excellent grass growing season. Cattle are thriving here and the cull cows that we're sending are ko heavier and scoring better (=/+) than other years.

I wonder will they extend the date to the end of September witn the way the weather turned out?

Any word on when payments might be made for this ??? I applied for 2.5ha x2 cuts as that's all I can mow. I've heard nothing to say I was accepted or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭mr.stonewall

Payment are planned for late November to December

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,586 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

It's supposed to be paid in November. There was a letter out the start of September with payment dates for all schemes. Check Agfood to see if you were a cepted

A number of farmers have been contacted re inspection for fodder scheme tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 689 ✭✭✭ABitofsense

I'm one of the 3% selected. One of the following to be submitted within 14 days:

Receipts from contractor with outline of dates & area mowed, baled etc.

Receipts of purchase of twine, wrap etc.

Reciept of sale of silage & to whom.

Just required to either post or email it in.

Ya I know of 2 done locally also. Counted bales in yard, looked at fields where cut and wanted dates.

Same as that got a call the other night at 9pm to say someone was coming the following day, as i was at work he said he did not even need me there. Neighbour seen 2 of them walking the fields, i wouldn't mind i only had 4 hectares put in so 400 euro the 2 boys would nearly cost as much !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,359 ✭✭✭kollegeknight

What would they be looking for in fields now? If cattle are grazing after grass.

one of my meadows has thrown up some rushes,5l that are 1.5feet high at spots. you’d know by the tracks that big tractors were there alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,459 ✭✭✭✭Base price

As I've previously posted - we should have taken photos on the phone of the fields (from the same perspective) that were mowed and baled for hay/silage or both. Take photos of the bales in the fields (hay or wrapped) and you have a time and date record.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,359 ✭✭✭kollegeknight

I actually took your advise on that. Another thing I did is text the contractor the fields so he would have dates if needed.

but I wonder what could be seen in mid October in a single cut field, cut in July.
