Buying from Italy

Hi,

This is an Italian website so I'm just wondering what the story will be with vat,

They seem to add the vat as you go to the checkout page, but I was under the impression that you would be paying Irish vat? So I'm just worried about being hit twice,

And there will be no other charges to pay on this?

Italy are in the EU, so they should charge you Vat at the Irish rate 23%, and that is the only VAT due.

VAT at the Irish rate only applies if the business sells over a certain amount to Irish customers (€60000 is in the back of my mind), if that threshold hasn’t been hit then it’ll just be the local VAT rate.

From the document you linked:  If the same product is sold to the final consumer within the EU, you may need to charge VAT at the rate applicable in their country. Which is what my German supplier was told last Friday, and he sells nothing into Ireland.

Yes, you’ve highlighted the very important “may” in that sentence, you may have to, if the threshold for sales has been met or one of any other number of exemptions.

I can’t speak to your conversation with your German supplier, but as the OP’s seller is charging them Italian VAT and not Irish VAT I’m not sure it holds much relevance.

Anyway, OP, you won’t be charged anything above the bill the Italian site charges you.
