Parent cannot remember finances

My mother is elderly with cognitive issues. She remembers having several bank accounts/insurance policies/investments but has no ideas of the where and who with.

The topic came up when she received a letter from Ulster Bank to close an account (of several thousand Euro) she had forgotten she had.

Her record/letter keeping is virtually non-existent. I had a search around the house but came up with very little.

Is there any way of finding out what she has in her name?

Does she have a will drafted up, maybe information is in there?

No instutions named in the will. The provisions do come to much more than the balance in the accounts she that she is aware of, i.e., a current account and savings account in one bank. Her everyday bank so hasn't forgotten that one.

There's no central register of anything like that. You'll need to go try find whatever paperwork you can; and maybe make yourself aware of the BFPI docs on dormant accounts (https://bpfi.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Dormant-Account-Form-June-2017.pdf) and bank name changes / successors (https://bpfi.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Bank-Name-Changes-Dormant-Accounts-Sep-2019-1.pdf - this has some missing stuff but is quite good)

If you can remember who had branches/agents in your area 20-30 years ago that may help, e.g. if there was a First National Building Society there may be something in Ulster Bank and so on.
