    1. What is your budget? €5,000

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Working from home, fairly heavy duty software development, and gaming on the side

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

    5. Do you need a monitor? No

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? I currently use 3 monitors, main one being 3440x1440 144hz and two 2560x1440 60hz displays.

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? No

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Probably not

    8. How can you pay? Card

    9. When are you purchasing? Any time from now, but no big rush

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Meath

I currently have a pretty recent high spec PC as it is, with a Ryzen 3900XT processor and an RTX 3080 graphics card that I got from PCSpecialist about 2 years ago (at the time the 3080 launched). However I've a reasonably large budget that I can justify for work use and I can hand that PC down so I think I'd rather go from scratch. My main issue with the current machine is that it's incredibly loud, I want to try to avoid that this time around. I also do some extremely CPU intensive work and spend a lot of time waiting for things to compile so any gains I can get there will be much appreciated. I don't really feel like I need any more graphics horsepower but if I can get the same or better without all the noise that would be nice.

I've built PCs in the past as a teenager, but these days I'm probably happier to spend an extra couple of hundred for something prebuilt to save the hassle and hopefully have more peace of mind. As I'm wanting a quieter machine I think water cooling might be the way to go, but I don't know much about it and if it becomes more difficult to maintain, I don't know.

As I've still got a good computer I'm not in a huge rush so if there's some breakthrough hardware around the corner I can wait, but I'm aware the nature of PC hardware is that there's always something on the horizon so you'll never buy if you stick too strongly to that attitude.

I can go above 5k too if there's good reason too, but I expect it's probably diminishing returns at that point.

Why not just replace all the loud fans with quieter ones?

    Like Noctua NF-A12x25 & Phanteks T30-120?

Well, if you want to go new... 😉

    --------

CPU: 5950X over 12900K imho. They're about equal in some benchmarks but 5950X should generate less heat, etc.

Case: Meshify S2 is well built & can take the massive 420mm AIO. 140mm fans all round & good airflow so you can tune the fans to run slow & quiet.

Motherboard is the cheapest I could find with 10Gb LAN & 3 M.2 slots. Also one of the few AM4 boards with Thunderbolt 4 Type-C (and it has 2x).

RAM is on the motherboard's QVL.

SSD is a decent PCIe 4.0 with 5yrs warranty.

RTX 3080 12Gb is as high as you should go TBH.

Mind, the AMD 7000-series CPUs & Nvidia RTX 4000-series GPUs are due to launch in the next 3-4 months.

If you do intensive database work you may want to replace the PNY SSD with this

    https://geizhals.eu/gigabyte-aorus-gen4-aic-ssd-8tb-gp-asacne6800tttda-a2180654.html

or if you're picky about which SSDs you put in your box, you can pick one of these HBAs

    https://geizhals.eu/?cat=iosasraid&xf=500_M.2+(PCIe)~614_PCIe+4.0+x16

and then buy 4x of you preferred SSDs.

16 Core should be enough for most build projects but if you like to run VMs in the background running all sorts of tests on your build, you may want to consider one of these other CPUs:

    https://geizhals.eu/?cat=cpuamdam4&xf=16689_23~820_sTRX4~820_sWRX8&sort=p

depending on which one you pick, you will need a sTRX4 or sWRX8 motherboard and 4 or 8 memory modules.
