Hi , I am being charged for a direct debit bounce by the energy company I have just moved from. I had direct debits cancelled by my bank and I had already moved when the direct debit was attempted. I paid the amount owing apart from the 7.50 bank charge after the failed direct debit charge. Am I legally obliged to pay this amount as it a charge they would have got from their own bank. Thanks

    Is my understanding correct?

You moved energy company and cancelled the direct debit mandate before the energy company took their final payment, it bounced and they are now charging you for their costs?
