How good/bad is Portlaoise (Fairgreen, Gandon Court or Esker Hills) compared to e.g. Blanchardstown?

Hello everyone,

I live in Blanchardstown Dublin and consider buying an apartment in Portlaoise, either in Fairgreen (Gandon Court) or Esker Hills. The commute is a bit longer, but for the same price, it seems I would get better quality of housing in Portlaoise than in Blanchardstown.

However, I am not familiar with Portlaoise, especially in terms of safety. How safe is Portlaoise compared to Blanchardstown? Are there any notable differences between Fairgreen and Esker Hills in terms of safety?

Esker Hills apartments are right beside the shops, which is probably the most anti-social part of the estate -

That being said, it's relatively safe, especially compared to Blanch. It's walking distance to the town, and the train station and the kids are generally harmless (unless you live on the ground floor and are trying to get a baby to sleep).
