How much savings can we have and still be eligible for fuel allowance.

    • The assessable income limit for a couple (where the qualified adult is aged 66 or over) is €600.30 (€120 plus €253.30 plus €227)

This is the means test that applies to you both. You take all your capital and disregard the first 20000.

So if you have, say, 60000 savings then it’s:

    60000-

    20000=

    40000.

Of the 40000, the first 10000 they calculate as giving you €10 income per week

the next 10000 they calculate as giving you €20 income per week

for every 1000 on top of that (in this example, 20000) they say you have €4.

    Add all that up.

    €10+

    €20+

    €80=

    €110 per week.

so if you have 60000 savings, you can add €110 to your weekly pension income.

If the final total is below the figure of €600.30 then you will qualify for fuel allowance.

Edit: don’t forget that all of your weekly income is added up, including any and all bits of occupational or foreign income.
