Personally I'm cheering for a Longo Borghini win.

In a decent position in the GC at the moment, could've been in trouble today but the rest of the peleton didn't seem to put her under any pressure when she lost time after a bike change with Balsamo.

Very likeable character is Longo Borghini always come across well. I was hoping the Americans Falkner and Ewers could do well as they've had a great year so far but the crashes haven't gone their way. Ewers did take back a handful of seconds in that move today.

Another cracking stage, missed it live due to family getting in the way but the highlights were great. I really do hope they drag it out to a full TdF race sooner rather than later.

No, you have to say "Elisa Longo Borghini". Every single time. Just like the commentators. And don't worry, it's not annoying at all.

I think it should be 'ELB' from now on.

Watched the highlights this morning. As commented above kinda the anti JV mens team from Cecilie under pressure, even for the chase back on. To answer my own question when not watching live, I think Cecilie had the levered thru axel too. Mavi had a horror show, but whatever bad luck has to be tempered by them taking out the Bex rider!

Anyway, for those that haven't been watching and have GCN+, well worth catching the "long" highlights of all the stages so far!

I can't believe Mavi Garcia only lost less than 2 mins after the horror show of yesterday. Fair fcuks to her, I hope she can work some time back in the mountains.

If she has any luck it's bad!

Sounds like some sort of European Organisation of the type that the Brexiteers would be raging against.

Wow that was quite the pile up

Poor Emma Norsegard, I hope she's ok

Direction failure from ESB there 😮

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,724 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Lucky there was no-one coming up the left of her, could have been horrific.

    Wiebes is different gravy.

She must have been following a a car or moto that was being pulled off course, lucky the rest didn't follow her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭MyDarkArts

Looks like that detour cost ELB nine seconds, probably would have been OK if there wasn't a break in the peleton rolling over the line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 996 ✭✭✭harmless

Look at the rider for St Michel(orange jersey, bottom left of video) in the big pill up. It look like she has time to move her weight to the back of the bike and brake hard but she unclips, sits forward on the top tube and joins the pile up without trying to slow. I think it worked out as she was probably uninjured but isn't it an odd decision for a pro rider?

According to EuroSport there she / the team successfully argued with the commissaires and got the time back.

    Easy-peasy for Vos

Chapeau to ELB there , she did some job getting Balsamo back into position but wasn't to be.

Wiebes really upset there, turned her bike and bolted the other way when the camera descended around her.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 6,856 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeeee

Wiebes really not happy. Love to be a fly on the wall of that team bus!

Loving the team radio also. Hope it's in all races now

It looks to me like Balsamo is lacking a little form at the moment, has been off the pace in a few sprints this Tour, not just today.

Just caught up, jebus, that deviation by Persico. How did the Comms not mention that, could have easily taken down a load of people. Maybe there was a reason as I didn't see an overhead shot but face on it looked sketchy as hell.

Cyclingnews reported today she was relegated to 39th place on the stage for that move .

    Wiebes abandon

No coverage on TG4 today other than highlights?

AvA and Vollering on the attack from the looks of the tracker. This is annoying, queen stage and still no live coverage, and by the time the build up is finished it'll be half 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,517 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Who actually decides when live TV coverage starts? Is it the ASO or the main French TV broadcasters?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,517 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

AvV is going to end up winning by minutes at this rate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,561 ✭✭✭at1withmyself

Amazing to see AVV long range attack but very boring stage to watch, no real change in the time gaps now for a long time. Hopefully tomorrow isn't the same.

I don't understand how the group of Niewiadoma et al. haven't been able to catch Longo Borghini.

EDIT: And they finally catch her. It only took about 50 kilometres

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭MyDarkArts

Think that's almost certainly game over for the yellow jersey, but at least there's some interest on the last stage for the podium places.

Will be worth the watching for that reason anyway, unlike the tedious last stage in the men's race.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,035 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

    Vollering has other ideas thankfully.

Edit - thought Vollering had attacked just before I turned on the live stream but just mechanical for AVV. So as you were.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,035 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

Impressive from AVV but not much of a spectacle unfortunately.

Camera bike in a bit of trouble not far from the finish

The moto going down there, looked like he stopped and couldn't get grip on the rear.

They looked to have what a 34 on the cassette there? I'd have needed a winch to get me up that ramp at the very end!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,763 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

She's 39, was sick for the first few days and unable to eat, and then the last 2 days she has savaged the rest of the women's peleton. Her dominance over the rest of the women is simply breathtaking, no one even comes close, she is on a completely different level. She had to change bikes half a dozen times today, and still rode everyone off her wheel on the final climb to Planche de Belle Filles.

Clean sweep for the Dutch for the jerseys.

Yep she is amazing. Sorry if I didn't use suitably glowing adjectives. I like to see more than one rider in contention and think in general it's better for any sport than dominance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 185 ✭✭DonegalBay

The only one who could rival AVV was Anna Van der Breggen and she retired last year even though she is younger. Now SD Worx DS. I have been following the women's side for a few years now and it just doesn't have the strength in depth compared to the mens side. It is improving, but will take a while. AVV also dominated the Women's Giro this year so she is a cut well above the rest. Unless team tactics can outfox her, she will usually win.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,599 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Still a cracking last stage. I prefer this to the mens last stage ceremonial, lazy sprint stage. The photo op rubbish in the mens TdF is a pain in the hoop and makes it pretty much not worth watching until the last 500m. This was entertaining and even when it was decided , it was still a great watch to see them fighting out for podium places.

Yeah roll on 2024 when the final stage will be in Nice I think it is and a chance for the final stage to matter more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,561 ✭✭✭at1withmyself

I'd agree that with such dominance from AVV it does make it less of a spectacle for viewing. The top 3 yesterday rode in the same order to the line again today and the most exciting thing was the motorcycle tipping over on the final climb.

With a more levelled playing field and maybe some medium mountain stages then there might be more to contend for the stage wins and the QOM Jersey.

Hopefully it continues to grow and competition gets closer. Also I hope the commentary improves and less of the constant use of "phenomenal" and "historical"!

dont know who the guy on eurosport commentating was but his voice is mind numbingly boring. Ive heard him do a few races before and doesnt do anything to make the race enjoyable

I thought the two Danni's could have managed just fine without him. Normally I don't mind him but he got on my nerves at times last week probably as he was missing stuff as it was happening on screen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,367 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Fitting that Vos got to wear yellow and AvV got to win it. The only sad part is VdB retired last year but she seems to have no regrets.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 6,856 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeeee

The only commentator I can't stand is Dani King, only states the obvious and talks about herself and what she did / how it was when she was racing in a way that added nothing. Absolutely useless.

Dani Christmas was brilliant, insightful, interesting etc.

Don't know who the guy is but he was grand I thought.
