Varnish over Fence Paint

I recently build a pallet couch which I painted with Fence Paint (https://www.ronseal.com/products/fence-life-plus/).

I had some paint left over so gave a wooden table I had a few coats of it.

Just wondering if there's any varnish I can put over this Fence Paint to give the table a protective veneer? I had a look at Yacht Varnish but the advice on the tin is not to apply over paint.

You want a water based acrylic varnish. This is a random one I picked of Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/ADLER-Acrylic-Clear-Coat-Matt/dp/B086BBGG5J/ . However I wouldn't varnish something painted with fence paint.

Thanks for that. Probably jumped the gun using the Fence paint, I wanted to keep it the same colour as the pallet couch.

I might strip it back and get some coloured varnish altogether..

The correct paint or should I say the easiest to use for the best results and longevity are the acrylic garden paints. Couple of random colours from the main brand names https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cuprinol-Garden-Shades-White-Daisy/dp/B00BTHL6HY/, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ronseal-RSLGPCG25L-Garden-Paint-Charcoal/dp/B01N3ND8LO/. They are waterproof and don't need much preparation. The darker colours cover much better. They are in effect much better quality fence paints and should go directly over your Fence Life paint. However I'd give the surfaces a good sand first.

Somewhat related question - I have some wooden panels that I'm planning to make into planter boxes. I've got the kids to paint them with water-based paints, is a polyurethane sealer the best thing to use to seal that?

What water based paints? Just because they are water based doesn't mean they aren't waterproof? Unless you want a crackle glaze finish it would be best to test any sealer first on a scrap piece. I'd suspect that water based polyurethane sealer would be OK. Oil based polyurethane sealer is more likely to give you a crackle glaze but that might look good - however if its your desired result it probably won't ;-)

It was recycled paint I bought here: Rediscover Paint | Rediscovery Centre

Yer man recommended using a sealer on it but I can't recall exactly what type. Good idea to test it out on a scrap piece, I'll give that a go

Think you are right and that recycled paint will need a sealer.
