Was thinking along the same lines myself. (but was afraid of being labelled a crank or conspiracy theorist)..😁😁

The Limerick hurling championship is now down to the last 4, yet not a single game has been televised. And it's highly unlikely that the semi's will be shown also. I would have expected that a county having won 3 A.I. in a row would surely have a club game or 2 televised at this stage.

Sports editors must be "big ball men".....!!!

Unfortunately this is Ireland and there's no guarantee whatsoever with the weather. Today i was at a game with about 4 layers and an umbrella and still got soaked. Yesterday i watched a game wearing a shirt and sunglasses.

This year's Munster final was played in atrocious conditions on June 5th. Last years was in burning heat in July.

One thing i did note was that underfoot conditions were very good for October and most games are still high scoring.

Are the senior Football and Hurling finals in Dublin both the Kilmacud and Na Fianna ?

Agree. It's unprecedented in the Dublin club championships.

Trim won their 28th Meath Senior Hurling Championship, beating Ratoath in the final who remain without a championship since 1963. Trim look likely to dominate Meath hurling for a while as their underage sides have been dominant at underage level for the last number of years.

Naas retained their Kildare football title and won their second football and hurling double in a row.

and just for good measure Ballymacarbry have only won their 41st successive senior club in Waterford

So much for the split season and playing the All Ireland Senior Inter County Championship finals in July. We will still be having the latter stages of the All Ireland Club Championships in the depths of Winter.

22/23 club finals scheduled for the January 22nd with the AI football semi finals fixed for the weekend of 7th/8th Jan

Atm the AI Hurling Semi finals will take place on the 17th/18th December but with that been so close to Christmas there thinking of having them in January instead

Watching the Kerry semi- final on RTE2, Gooch's pre match prediction hasn't aged too well, he said it would probably be very cagey and he wouldn't be surprised if it was 4 points each after 25 minutes. Half time Mid Kerry 0-11 Feale Rangers 0-2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,238 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

That's not what the split season was about. The promise was not sunny summer hurling for the clubs.

The promise was that club players would have a reliable schedule and could plan their life. Previously players could plan nothing because of constant cancellations due to the intercounty team "going well"

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,465 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Navan O'Mahonys were relegated to Intermediate in Meath having only last won the Keegan Cup in 2015. Dunshaughlin, who were relegated last season, came straight back up by beating Duleek/Bellewstown in the IFC final.

In Junior, Dunsany were in their 7th final in 20 years and it was their 7th loss in that time. They have never won an adult championship.

Disappointing game. Over at half time. Feale were pretty awful.

The window to play club championship between national league and intercounty championship is now gone it must be remembered, only a certain about of weekends in a year, schedule in dual counties is crazy enough as it is.

Castletown are Wexford senior football champions. One of the best second half performances I have ever seen.

Completely and utterly written off. The bookies had Shelmaliers at 1/4, most 'experts' had them to win by upwards of 7 points, and there was a preview piece mid-week picking a combined 15 that had Shels 12-3.

And they didn't know what hit them. Absolutely tore into them. Eoghan O'Gara was painted as some sort of Brogan figure all week, yet ended up challenging his immediate marker to a fight in the car park. One of those days where you could easily pick 5-6 lads for MOTM, but special mention to 40-year old Jody O'Shaughnessy who went through a mountain of work and brought home his third medal to go with the nine won by his late father.

12 county titles now, top of the pile.

The provincial hurling championships are going to be great especially Munster where Ballygunner will have to get past the Tipperary and Limerick Champions to make a Munster final

Ballyhale will be big favourites in Leinster esp with a few new teams in it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Watched the Kilkenny final yesterday. TJ Reid gave another outstanding display but i thought James Stephens were a very average team and the game wasn't great over all. If Ballyhale hadn't been reduced to 14 for a harsh red card early in second half they would have dished out a right beating i feel. Ballyhale favourites to go and finish what they feel they left behind to Harry Ruddle and co last year. I wouldn't bet against them.

Agree there a serious outfit and will take some stopping.

Ballyhale look a good bit ahead of the rest in Leinster, if Na Pairsaigh and Ballygunner end up meeting in a Munster semi final that could be a cracker.

Ratoath won their third Meath SFC title in four years yesterday, beating Summerhill by a point. Just 10 years ago, Ratoath scraped by Donaghmore/Ashbourne'B team in the Meath Junior final so it's been some rise through the ranks. Five of the side that won in 2012 played yesterday.

The AI Hurling Semi finals been Leinster vs Munster, Ulster vs Galway/Connacht makes it so intriguing and exciting

If Slaughtneil win Ulster they won't have any fear of the Galway champions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,646 ✭✭✭washman3

Ya, a serious outfit that will take some stopping.

On a side-note about yesterdays game, how on earth did the ref put up with Colin Fennelly constantly in his ear. He was virtually reffing the game and constantly whinging and moaning. Has he always been like this at club level.? Dont remember him like that under Cody at all. Maybe a new phase he's going through.!!

He gets away with it cause of his brilliance but TJ is brutal for it too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 671 ✭✭✭Mad about baa baas

Might be a ballyhale thing 🤔..Henry was well able to give out too on the few occasions when things weren't going well for him..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,486 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Got to love the drama of a county final. Both Dublin and Tipp hurling finals very exciting in the end (standard ok)

Some going for Kilmacud and Na Fianna. Dual senior finalists. Although Na Fianna must feel sick losing both finals

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,879 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

Interesting to see that Dublin clubs have won 45% of Leinster club titles, 23 out of 51, the same percentage as the County team, 61 out of 135. But for other counties the numbers reflect a change in fortunes from the early days before the club championship was in introduced in 1970. Wexford and Louth have 18 Leinster titles between them, but along with Kilkenny neither have ever had a club winner.

On the other hand 2 Wicklow teams have a club title, and Laois and Carlow are second and third in the club roll of honour.

Yes, I should have said football. Looking at the hurling, Dublin teams have just 3 Leinster titles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,695 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Today I witnessed some awful behaviour from Portarlington. Their fans were systemically booing Castletown, especially on the restart, rubbed it into them every time they scored and kept the sledging up on the final whistle too. One of their players spat at his direct marker during the game as well. Deserved winners due to how they saw out the last few moments but scandalous carry on.

Jayus that was a surprise Ballybay beating Cross. Good football in it too. Hard to know was it Cross playing poorly or Ballybay flying it.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,202 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

Some craic for the Ulster Qf with the Ballybay manager having 3 sons on the Kilcoo team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,076 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

I will have to tune in for that so, love a match with an extra dimension.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Ballybay deserve all the credit here. After a shaky start, they grew into the game and for the most part controlled it, especially that 2nd half where it was one way traffic. They managed the game like they were the team that have a ton of Ulster club experience, while Cross were the team which lacked discipline and couldn't control the black card periods.

Tbh I don't think this should come as *that* huge of a surprise to people that know the scene - while Cross probably deserved to be favorites on the balance of things, they're still a bit of a team in transition in terms of younger players coming through and finding their feet at this level, so it's not a vintage Cross side from that regard. Ballybay on the other hand just won their 1st county title in 10 years, but that doesn't really tell the tale of their quality. They've underachieved in recent years and should probably have won more, and they have a quality group of players, a good few of which have extensive intercounty experience.

Wouldn't call the Naas win a shock as they'll be there or thereabouts over the next few years.

Trim beat Danesfort in Nowlan Park. Along with the Naomh Barróg result, that's the two favourites for the Leinster Intermediate championship gone in one afternoon.

How many different clubs those David Clifford play for in Kerry ?

Every weekend you're seeing 'he scored xxx this club' etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 566 ✭✭✭C4000

Was at the Naas v Shinrone game. Naas' dominance was reflected on the scoreboard. The goals they got were very well worked, great interplay and took their chances well. Particularly impressed with no.15 Cathal Downing who gave a fine display setting up a couple of the goals with great running and vision. Shinrone couldn't get any foothold in attack and got a bit loose with their challenges when the game was gone, with a predictable straight red card resulting.

    2. Fossa is his actual club and they won the junior today.

East Kerry are a divisional team made up of players from junior and intermediate clubs and they play other divisions and primarily the big town clubs. They won't be allowed represent Kerry in Munster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,326 ✭✭✭munster87

Yeah only the 2 teams, he scores enough for 5 or 6 teams though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,238 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

How do they decide who represents Kerry. Is it a playoff ?

Kerry have 2 senior championship competitions. The more prestigious one involves clubs and divisional sides and if a club wins that they represent Kerry in the All Ireland series.

The second competition is a senior club championship and if a divisional team wins the other competition then the winner of the club competition represents Kerry. Kerins O'Rahillys won it and they will represent Kerry in Munster as East Kerry won the Senior Football Championship.

Bit of a convoluted system but regardless of what level your club are at a player has the opportunity to play in the senior championship if they are good enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,238 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

We tried it divisional in Limerick for a few years back but wasn't very popular. Especially when it looked like one could win the championship.

Strange to have parallel championships though.

Big win for Naomh Barrog against Oulart yesterday. Thought Oulart would have been one of the favourites for leinster. Barrog the winners of Dublin's senior 3 which would be junior A in Wexford. The standard in Dublin must be very high or is Wexford's dropping I wonder. Great to see Naas winning as well brilliant club team and would give anyone a game of it.

Big win for Naomh Barrog against Oulart

There should be none of them winning Leinster. Naomh should get the boot to teach their hooligan fans some manners.

Looked very bad alright. Surely there will be punishments dished out to both clubs.
