would say that techno doesn’t translate as well as house/disco/hip hop/funk to catch all festivals settings.

life festival captures a lot of the high profile techno acts every year and that usually rules them for ATN or as you said the bigger ones will do district 8 events for a lot more money

Terminus at EP always has at least one techno dj every night over of the 4 or 5 on the line up.

I dunno, I've been to ATN a couple of times and I am fairly sure afterhours wasn't just bland house or disco. Over at Arcadia i've seen Josh Wink, Erol Alkan, Or:La, Heidi etc, then there's AVA in the woods last year which had some decent Tech House and Techno, some might dispute the quality of the Techno but it definitely wasn't house or disco. There's plenty of other stuff going on as well in the Jameson area and on the bandstand, then there's the road to nowhere and something kind of wonderful tents, Koze, Joy Orbison and Mano Le Tough on late last year for example. No doubt i'm forgetting other areas like Sim Simma etc but personally think the variety of electronic is quite decent. I would agree I'd like to see more bands on late late night, it's the one thing I loved about body & soul area are EP, seeing great act on that B&S stage at 2 / 3 am, maybe that's what we'll get with the new Ealu Le Gra area at ATN.

There's also the All Kinds of Everything stage usually hosted by Sim Simma, which functions like the old Liquid Tent at Life festival specialising in Bass Music, be it drum and bass, dub step or IDM stuff always an interesting stage it seems this year to be renamed Ealu Le Gra. Is there not a reggae area too called One love. Your definitely right about Josh Wink, would you call this house and disco, I call it gurgling acid techno.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

    Thanks.

That's the last time I ever buy a festival ticket in advance so.

Bit of a shame they can't be transferred alright, no real reason why it shouldn't be possible, but I guess it's at the promoters discretion.

Reckon they will open it up for transfer closer to august. Especially if nearly sold out

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,593 ✭✭✭Boooourns

Is there any DJ in the ilk of DJ Yoda, Cut Chemist there? A bit of mixing and scratching and just giving off good party vibes basically.

  • Registered Users Posts: 225 ✭✭Phishwax

Ive been to every ATN and there has always been non dance music stuff on in the evenings. The first year there was a hot press acoustic tent that went onto 4AM and in 2019 the comedy stage was on until 4AM I remember seeing Joshua burnside and David Keenan late on that stage. Last year i remember seeing onion boys at like 1AM on a small stage.

Speaking of comedy stage, it's been announced, nothing remotely interesting to me but I never bother with comedy at festivals.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,792 ✭✭✭Fanirish

Same old acts. Tommy tiernan is a big name though and if he is on at the afternoon will get good crowd.

WTF - that is a kick in the stones. Well good to know now not to buy e-tickets for ATN again. What does one do now - had someone lined up to buy tickets so now thats two groups in a bind

    From ATN website

We regret that 2023 tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase.

Only buy your tickets from authorized outlets only; do not seek to gain admission using a counterfeit ticket.

I mean, buying e-tickets via TM is to help stop unauthorized ticket sale. Sure what's the point doing that then if you don't have the option of transferring/selling. Better going back to hard copy tickets so?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,792 ✭✭✭Fanirish

They will probably open the transfer option closer to the festival.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭reni10

Where is the link to the comedy acts announced?

I've asked this before in other threads, maybe this one too....do the Neutronix guys do anything anymore?? They used to have the Psy area at Life, and I think used to do the original "rave in the woods" at the picnic too. Would be great to have a Psy area at ATN!

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭Jambonjunior

    I find it very disappointing.

I bought my ticket and due to circumstances outside my control now I'm left with a ticket I can't use.

How can they in good conscience sell early bird and advance tickets when there's a chance people won't be able to use the ticket a year down the line.

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭TenPicnics

This is what annoys me also, and they have our money from the start, it's not as if we get to hold off payment until a week or two before the event. Money paid therefore we should be able to give or sell on to anyone we please, without shovelling more cash to the ticket company.

Jasus, i thought i was festivaled out after BTP last week, watching glasto all weekend has me put some gra on me for ATN!

  • Registered Users Posts: 570 ✭✭✭Blackie_IRL

Same. I was a bit ropey last week after BTP but after binging on Glasto for the weekend I am raring to go again, hopefully the weekly drop feed of announcements has started, we had comedy last week, no doubt another announcement this week, think someone mentioned the 3rd "main lineup" announcement is sometime around middle of July, I know it's not sold out so am hoping they've held back a couple of decent acts, maybe a surprise announcement etc

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,588 ✭✭✭RINO87

Ya that's a bit of a dose. We have tickets that we likely can't use either and had been hoping to transfer to friends, I mean we paid for them like! Not the best seeing as we have supported them from the start, have been to all 3 and have been singing their praises since!

Going to give them the benefit of the doubt for the moment, snend them a mail and see what the story is.

Do they even check ID on entrance, can't remember ever having my ID checked vs name on ticket when arriving at a festival

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,792 ✭✭✭Fanirish

They don’t check name and transfer will be open before the festival I reckon. might be week of though

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭Jambonjunior

No never. But there's also never been an issue with transferring tickets before, so I wouldn't be surprised if that also changes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,588 ✭✭✭RINO87

It's the transferring part that might be tricky...for a few TM events this year I've had to use the app to show tickets, a screenshot or printout of the barcode wouldn't do the job.....but we'll see

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,829 ✭✭✭Toast

This seems to be the final form of a process designed to arrive where we are now slowly enough so we didn't really notice. It was always in the T&Cs of tickets that they were non-transferable but it wasn't really in any way enforceable because you could simply hand a ticket to another person. Tickets changed from being bits of paper to bits of paper with barcodes which necessitated an entire infrastructure and acceptance of scanning tickets, then the paper tickets were quietly stopped so it was just a digital QR code but that was almost better because you could screenshot and transfer it via a side channel and it worked but then suddenly the QR codes became dynamic and any mechanism for being able to resale or transfer tickets was now completely in control of the ticketing company (and whether it is on or off and when is dictated by the promoter).

I've so many issues with this. The obvious one being the assumption of being able to transfer any digital ticket is now not a certainty without handing someone access to you ticket account. However what is really concerning is what will happen the day of a major event when either Ticketmaster's website crashes or a major mobile network has an issue? You can save tickets into a wallet if you are prepared but so many people tend to rock up and just try access them there and then. Yes you can ask for paper tickets but it is an extra 5 quid for the privilege when it used to be free. Seems like it is relying heavily on modern technology which as much as I love it I'll be the first to tell you is not as robust as some ink on paper.... especially in some remote field somewhere.

The only real way to reverse this is some sort of consumer protection legislation. Ticketmaster won't do it out of the kindness of their hearts as they want this level of control at the expense of the consumer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,792 ✭✭✭Fanirish

devil advocate here is that no event has banned ticket transfer, even Bruce Springsteen and Harry styles opened the ticket transfer function shortly before the concerts.

and if transfer is allowed straight away this makes life a lot easier for touts.

touts are already scamming people with the ticket transfer function (even with window restrictions).

Yeah ticketmaster wants a closed environment that all purchases, transfers and resales are within their solely and that anything out side it is difficult/cumbersome. It wants a captured market as a monopoly.

personally I don’t see any issue with ticket window only being open 48 hours before a show. Takes all of one minute to transfer/receive the ticket.

Sure it’s the same with premier league tickets, only appear in your account 24 hours before the match.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,829 ✭✭✭Toast

Well I can only go on what the promotor has explicitly said which is that they won't allow it. That the transfer option can be hung over people like this and maybe not opened up means no one can make any plans. Maybe it opens up 48hrs in advance or maybe it doesn't. That's a hella short window to find out you can or can't go to a multiple day festival. If it was guaranteed it was always going to open at that time it would be manageable but I don't believe that is what has been said.

I've been running toutless.com for 15 years so I've no love for touts or scammers (and there's a distinction) and I don't like making their lives easier but solutions offered by promoters or ticketing companies restricting legitimate users means buying a ticket is a much increased risk now that its money down the drain if you can't go. I don't consider that a solution. Just a restriction that coincidentally favours the promoters / ticket companies ( in the short term anyway).

I honestly don't mind if they keep it in their walled garden as long as they don't shut down their own resale system too and leave people with no chance of recouping something. The in house resale option is again at their whim as to when it is available and can't be counted on.

Anyway FWIW I've shut the topic for ATN on Toutless until it is clear there will be a transfer option available. If someone can show they're transferable I'll open it back up. Please drop me a PM if it happens.

Thank you for running Toutless. I’ve bought many a ticket over the years from there and never had issues

It seems very short sighted by the operator. They may sell a handful more tickets, but it's going to hurt future sales of all gigs. People won't let themselves get caught like this again .

And 100%, organising yourself around the hope that there will be a 48 hour transfer window isn't viable.

They're not hurting touts with this, just people who have been going to their festival.
