Girlfriend has recently had a warning light come up on the dashboard of a 19 BMW 116d.

Reading the codes with carscanner app comes up with fault code "P24C6 2BA100", apparently something related to a sensor in the DPF but hard to find the exact cause on google.

Car is going to the mechanic today but just thought I'd try to get some more info in the meantime.

Anyone have any idea about what might be causing this?

If there is some sort of blockage etc in the DPF, can this be fixed or does it need a replacement?

Had something similar on our 318d recently - don't have the code that was raised to hand though. Was essentially down to the DPF not having cleared out and needing to be taken for a decent spin to get it to start the regen cycle.

Scanned it soon afterwards, and it had moved onto a new information code (245600) to say a regen cycle was underway. If its been doing lots of short journeys I'd imagine it just needs to regen.

    An update to this.

Car was with the local mechanic, he replaced some sort of particulate sensor in the DPF, and cleared the codes/warning light.

The light came on again a few days later, he said it was to be expected and that if we brought it for a long drive on the motorway, it should trigger a regen and clear the fault.

Having done that, I could see in an OBD app that a regen was completed, but the light has remained.

The car has been back with the mechanic again, and he hasn't been able to figure it out/fix it and has recommended that the car is brought to a BMW dealer.

The car is out of warranty, but what are the chances of BMW covering this as a goodwill gesture? How would you go about trying to get them to cover any repairs as such?

An issue like this on a 3 year old car is not great engineering imo.

DPF is generally not covered under warranty, so it’s unlikely that it would be covered under goodwill

Have just had engine management light come on 2018 118d.

OBD scan shows "2BB600 Particle sensor, diagnostic feedback: measuring electrode, shunt detection"

There was a warranty extension on this part for N47 engine - hopefully can negotiate some sympathy from dealer.

    Sympathy from dealer? Flat NO!

Sympathy took the form of €290 to fit the sensor and, the clincher, €150 to reprogramme the car. I repeat, €150 to plug a freaking computer in!

Why would there be any sympathy? Its a 5 year old car?

Is the car under BMW warranty? Have you been servicing the car with BMW since new?
