Local Chemist recommendations

I've had chronic illness for a long time and last year has been particularly bad with a number of hospital admissions. I was discharged last week and we immediately went to our chemist with the prescription. Four visits later by my husband, at least 20 phone calls - as many of the calls weren't answered - we are still awaiting one drug to be dispensed.

It's actually like a comedy show at this stage, the staff keep changing and they have locom pharmacists in to cover. You describe the issue to one pharmacist and the next day, the new pharmacist hasn't a clue what you are talking about.

I could go on and on about the dreadful customer service but there is always a mistake or issue anytime I have to collect my monthly script.

They now have me calling Pharmaceutical companies looking to see if they supply the final drug, instead of them doing it.

I'm not going to name the company but they have a number of branches in the local area, and I think it's pretty obvious who they are. The reason I chose to use them was the long opening hours. I actually left one of the branches and moved to another but they seem to have developed the same poor customer service as my previous chemist unfortunately.

I'm not looking for perfection and I'm very reasonable but at this stage I'm seriously thinking of moving chemist due to the stress of dealing with them.

I'm in the Castleknock area, so anywhere including Blanchardstown village would be suitable.

Looking for any recommendations, and at this stage, I'm happy to go with a chemist with less flexible hours. Once they are reliable.

Sheridans in roselawn shopping centre is an excellent pharmacy. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

I'm in the Clonsilla area of D15 and my wife is in a similar position with chronic pain. Has been on a series of specialised and controlled drugs over the years and is regularly in hospital for treatments.

Since we moved to D15 from D7 about 6 years ago we tried a number of pharmacies in the area but experiences were not great. Some couldn't supply the specific drugs required and others even sought additional payments over the monthly drugs payment amount for prescribed medication.

In the end we went back to her previous pharmacy in Phibsborough, Collis Pharmacy, who were remarkable and nothing short of excellent over the years. It wasn't even our local pharmacy in D7 when we lived there but were referred to them when others couldn't help.

The location is far from ideal and a significant hassle but in our case has been worth the effort as she's very reliant on a good and dependable pharmacy. The owner Richard Collis retired a few months ago and was a proper gent, always went above and beyond and we were both very sorry to see him leave. All the staff are excellent though so can only hope the culture and ethos of the place remains.

Something to consider if nothing else closer works out

Thanks for the recommendations. I work near Phibsborough, so it might be an option but I'll give Sheridans a try as it is close to us.

I cant offer a recommendation as they are ALL the same with the same old issues (I and the family have tried a few in the area, ,local and brand names)

Basically treat them like kids and dont trust them

If a script is sent over or dropped in ring to see if they did get it an are getting it ready

Ring the day you are collecting it to say you will be over

Walk outside and check it so you save yourself a return journey if or more when its wrong

I don't think we ever had an issue with the pharmacy we used in D15. But would know them for many years and be first name terms.

Recently switched to the Chemist Warehouse place in the Centre, saving a fortune and the service is no worse than anywhere else.

Prescription meds a lot cheaper. Pile em high and sell them low is the approach and that works for the consumer.

The pharmacy sector has been over-protected in Ireland for decades.
