Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mahmoud Abbas comments on Holocaust

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has come under terrible criticism for daring to say in Germany at a press conference hosted by the German Chancellor last Tuesday (August 16,2022) that Israel has carried out "50 holocausts against the Palestinian people" in the post-war period.

Furthermore, the German chancellor Mr Scholtz has been criticised for not responding immediately to the "trigger" and shutting Abbas down for daring to compare the brutality of Israeli occupying forces to the genocidal actions of the Nazis. There is much comment and outrage in the international press about this careless use of language by the Palestinian president and that it took Mr Scholtz several hours to denounce the use of the world holocaust.

Interesting then, to look at a speech given by a conservative American to an audience in Israel only last month. Matt Schlapp, chairman of a Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) that was being hosted in Israel, made some opening remarks which again tried to equate the "tyranny" of his opponents to the long-time persecution of Jews, implicitly including the Holocaust.

    Here's what he said.

"If you watch CNN you might get a different idea. Here's what's going on.

"These forces are trying to divide America. They're trying to destroy us. They are doing to us what people did to you for centuries and centuries. They're taking down our statues. They're changing our history. They're telling us what's right is wrong, and what's up is down.

"They're doing that to divide us and to make us weaker, and to turn the American cause into a global cause. Run by the UN. Run by the EU. Run by the WHO. Run by the elite to tell people what they can and can't do. I hope the people of Israel are rooting those of us in America on to save our country from these terrible forces."

I look in vain for any outrage anywhere online, apart from this post, to Mr Schlapp "equating" the poseurs of BLM and other such agents of 21st century priggishness to the murderous treatment of Jews down through the centuries, culminating in the Nazi Holocaust of the 1940s.

Maybe Abbas should have been more careful with his language, but he is utterly entitled to be enraged by the ongoing Israeli actions against his people. But come on, he can't compare those to what the Nazis did to Jews. That's much more like a bunch of righteously indignant students demanding the removal of statues glorifying slave-owning generals.

Wath it here. From about 6minutes in.

Israel apologists have already decided what side they will back. They dont really care about the holocaust, but will use it along with anti-semitism as weapons to attack their opponents with.

Whether Abbas mentioned the holocaust or not, the same people outraged would still be anti-palestine for the simple fact that Palestinians are the sworn enemy of "their side".
