It happens to me about once a year, where I accidentally hit some key that causes word to behave as follows. The thing that shows you where you were last active on the page (whatever it's called) flashes black when it comes on and off. Then, for every new character you insert into a sentence, you end up deleting the character beyond it. How do I turn it off?

    Thank you

The key you pressed is the insert key. Press it again to turn it off. It's likely above the arrow keys on your keyboard.

The flashing thing is called the cursor!
