Scutch grass attacking carrots?

I pulled an otherwise healthy carrot today, and it had been 'speared' by something underground. I have every weed imaginable around and scutch grass is everywhere; could it have poked the carrot when the carrot was younger? I don't think it affected the carrot much, it's as big as other unpoked one.

Carrot with something poking into it:

Closeup showing 'spear' removed, and the hole it made in the carrot:

Not trying to be smart but that's why you keep carrots weeded.

Totally agree - the scutch grass is a plague though, miss a tiny bit, a couple days later, boom! And, fwiw, the carrots are, overall, doing really well for me this year, have had 2 full (enough for our use) crops this year for the first time, plus *touch wood* no sign of the horror that is the root fly.
