With assisted dying legalised & pressures on pensions increasing . . . .

Should we just not set an upper limit on age, pick a nice round figure, say 80.

So Nana's big day is coming up, big party, big f*ck off party, the works. Then quietly she slips off out the back, makes no fuss, no cost to the health service, nice one.

Now I know some will find it hard but we all know the day is coming, isn't it nice to have certainity.

I'm just saying there's an elephant in the room & we need all options on the table.

All options on the table, nice wording. : ) classy, Especially when in the same communication you are arguing for people not having the option or opportunity to live past 80. As odd and malevolent a thread as I’ve read on boards..

neither my parents would be alive and most of my aunts and uncles the same. All are healthy, living frightfully energetic and active lives, between traveling, volunteering and being socially active…

I’ve an aunt 92 at her next birthday, suppose she should have just been killed 12 years ago.

the first politician to suggest that will end up being introduced to Rom Massey.

Only because it doesn't apply to you.

People should have the choice (with safeguards) if they wish to end their lives, but nobody should be forced (as you suggest based on age) into doing it.

Oh, and State pensions are unsustainable regardless of what we do due to rising costs of living (and rising costs for medical care). Not because people are living longer.

There was a film made about this wasnt there? Some town in the backarse of the states with a fountain of youth but they all decided they shouldnt live past 100. Some couple went on the run with a van full of water from fountain but the rest of the villagers went chasing after them

Not in Ireland. Assisted dying or assisted suicide still carries"...on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fourteen years". OP got my hopes up for a moment, I thought we finally had (for some people) humanity and dignity being allowed at the end of life.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Just imagine the youtube videos of the Guards pursuing 80 year-olds hauling a$$ for the Northern border like OJ Simpson! 🤣🤣🤣 In the slow lane, adhering to the speed limit and signalling for turns early.

Seriously though, its such a grim idea to start measuring human life as something that can be cut short by society. Wonder how the OP views social welfare for the disabled.

    Man dies, aged 80.

Sympathiser- "80? That is a great age"

Mourner- "It wasn't for him. He died."

“Midsommar” must have really impressed you, OP.

The cut off age for that was 30*. What Edgey McEdgelord suggested in the OP would be more like "Logan's Shuffle." Doesn't have the the same ring to it, does it?

*It's just dawned on me that those of us who get your reference would be long gone from Logan's world.

its the sort of idea that could come about through stealth in a world of depleted resources - imagine a societal norm that says it’s the honourable thing to do, to voluntarily exit this world if you reach a certain age so that younger people can live better lives?

What sounds stupid, crass and insensitive today may well be a societal norm in 100 years time
