Got it wrong. The Saturn send to have been heading NEward. Headed in over Galway bay but it’s petered out now. Fine very blustery here though.

Active storm running along the Cork coast.

Colder uppers well and truly over us now aiding plenty of instability along with plenty of LLS and DLS giving strong Lapse Rates and a big addition to the instability coming from the seas being relatively warm still. Big convective blustery showers streaming inland, looks very active along Atlantic coasts tomorrow from early, will see how much thunderstorm activity moves inland, could be fairly active as the trough or maybe more than one trough moves across the country during the day. could well see thunderstorms over the Irish sea also tomorrow.

The frontal system moving up over Ireland on Sunday could be fairly active also, will see.

Thunder claps + torrential rain + severe gusts

    West Limerick 200 M ASL

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH - SATURDAY 15TH OCTOBER 2022

    Issued 2022-10-15 08:28:59

    Valid: 15/10/2022 0600 - 16/10/2022 0600

    Forecast Details

Upper trough over the NE Atlantic will continuing amplifying south close to the UK, a vigorous upper vortex embedded in the upper trough and collocated surface low to the west of Ireland will move NE towards western Scotland through the day, moving close to N. Ireland.

An occluded front is bringing an area of rain eastwards across northern and western areas this morning, tapering to narrowing band in its southern extent. Following the rain clearing east, lapse rates will quickly steepen from the west across northern and western areas, as cold air aloft associated with Atlantic upper trough, characterised by 500mb temps of -25 to -30C, edges in atop of moist maritime SWly flow warmed by seasonally warm SSTs. The steep lapse rates and increasing lift with arrival of upper vortex, west of Ireland at breakfast time, will support heavy showers and thunderstorms, initially across western Ireland, to spread east across the island of Ireland and in across Wales, NW England and western Scotland through the day.

A strong southwesterly jet stream will cover southern Britain through today, which combined with backing surface winds ahead of low moving NE over Ireland, will create strong deep layer shear. The strong deep layer shear will overlap the southern extent of strongest instability across S Ireland, Wales and NW England – where MUCAPE, boosted by warm SSTs beneath cold air aloft, is forecast to reach 600-900 j/kg. The strong shear / strong instability suggests organised areas of convection forming – perhaps some bowing line segments, capable of producing damaging convective wind gusts of 50-60 mph, hail and C-G lightning. Also, convective allowing models indicate strong low-level shear ahead of low moving NE and associated wrap-around occlusion moving east, so more buoyant / strong updrafts into organised convection could rotate to form a tornado or two, particularly coastal areas in the west. Therefore, have issued a risk of severe weather for S Ireland, Wales and NW England – where vertical shear looks strongest.
