G24q to E27 light bulb adapter

Have an external light that uses G24q light fittings. Bought an adapter for an E27 base and it ended up frying an expensive philips hue E27 light bulb. Doing a search and it suggests the ballast on the light needs to go for it to work. Wondering if anyone knows anything about this. Cheers
