Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    1. The Queen Is Dead
    2. Strangeways
    3. Meat Is Murder or The Smiths … just can’t separate those.

four albums that are 5/5 or close…

incredible band… can’t think of any band with the absolute consistency of brilliance over such a small duration of existence. But over four albums..over 5 years or so…

first heard The Queen Is Dead in 1999 on my CD Walkman, walking back from my job in Clontarf to the Dart station…. It was immediate…

Listening to it on Spotify right now.

Was never a huge Smith’s fan but they did make some crackers, this album included.

I think Strangeways is better than TQID, which is obviously brilliant.

You just need to put the effort in. Woo them with compliments and flowers. Maybe even learn some of the language. Go to Rome to meet them.

Oh, sorry, italics. I misread it as Italians

What annoys me about Strangeways is Unhappy Birthday and Death at One’s Elbow are real low points on an otherwise excellent LP. Two real duff tracks imho. Every other track is gold. Production sounds much better on Strangeways then on the TQID though but that album TQID sneaks it on the pure quality of songs, both melody and lyrics… 9/10 the Queen is Dead vs 8/10 for Strangeways in my most humblest of opinions..

    I really like Unhappy Birthday!

Paint a Vulgar Picture, Stop Me... and Last Night... - those three alone make the album worth it imo. Sublime.

It's Girlfriend In A Coma that I don't like. And yeah, Death At One's Elbow is a bit sh1t really.

Death At One's Elbow is my least favourite Smiths song

    I'd rank the albums

    1 Meat Is Murder

    2 The Queen Is Dead

    3 Strangeways, Here We Come

    4 The Smiths

    There's not much between 1 & 2 but there's a big gap between 3 & 4.

Hatful Of Hollow is the Smiths record I play most.
