Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Buying in Santry

    Hi everyone,

I have seen lots of reasonably priced apartments in Santry. I have walked/ran through the area tonnes of times and it seems grand no anti social behaviour.

Lad, mid 30s no interest in kids etc. Points about the area I would be interested in.

Access/public transport times to town - My office is in Adelaide Road but I am only in two days a week, what kind of time frame would you be talking morning rush hour?

Amenities in the area - Good pubs/restaurants etc? I would probably go into town to do a lot of my socialising anyway.

Yeah, there's decent apartments there, particularly in Santry Woods, nice bit of forest and wetland. I've been in a few and it would only appeal to me if I was in your position!! I wouldn't be keen on having a family there. Main pro would be proximity to the city and the public transport that's there.

The pubs and restaurants would be typical suburban affairs. Nothing outstanding but any there are decent enough not to have shut down due to lack of custom.

Santry is grand.. safe area, good well built apartments in Northwood.

plenty of amenities, lots of shops and a cinema in Omni, takeaways and restaurant, not too many decent pubs but their are some not far.

great transport links, Northwood is scheduled to have a metro stop, all be it probably in 2077 the way things are going with our maggot politicians.

has a Ben Dunne gym too, you might be lucky enough to meet the fella on google who fills the photos catalogue on google of his selfies complete with expressionless creepy stare. 🫣😵‍💫

    using public transport..

    airport is 7 minutes away.

    swords about 15

    city about 20-25

Are you talking about apartments in Northwood or elsewhere in Santry? Public transport links would very much depend on which part you are looking at in particular. If you are looking at Northwood it is worth noting no bilus service enters the complex so you will have to walk to either the old airport rd or the Ballymun road. The number 4 passes down the Ballymun Rd towards Ballsbridge. I've done the trip a handful of times and would allow 45 minutes to 1 hour. From Santry village the city centre is just under 20 mins by bus. There isn't a great choice of pubs in the vicinity. Or sit down restaurants other than the likes of nandos (Northwood has a gourmet food parlour). Plenty of take aways and no major antisocial behaviour beyond the odd light-fingered individual wandering in from neighbouring parishes.

  • Thanks for all the feedback.

The apartments are in Northwood, Temple Court, Parklands, Larch Hill, The Ceaders/Carrington, Hayward Court.

For the bus from Northwood would the 45 minutes to 1 hour be morning rush hour or at a normal point in the day?

Going to head up there again after work tomm evening for another look.

I catch the bus down towards DCU so from Northwood it would be definitely around 1hour. That would be during rush hour. You have bus lanes on about 90% of the route so traffic levels only impact the timings slightly.

From the Santry end of Northwood it's a good walk back up towards the Ballymun Rd. You would need to factor that in to your journey time. Northwood is at the very Northern end of Santry so you are that little bit further away from everything.

The Crowne Plaza used to be a fantastic asset to the complex. It did nice food and had a comfortable bar but it's not a reception centre for refugees. It's a shame it's been lost but hopefully not permanently

There will be changes to the bus services from next year. It is planned the new E1 service will start near Eurospar will head out to Bray passing UCD. Later the new "A" services will pass the Swords Rd entrance and head toward the Southside (up Camden St etc) without the current diversion around Beaumont of the 16

  • I looked at an apartment in Temple Court yesterday evening.

Not sure about the location it seems a little bit isolated with very few amenities which around it even though the property itself looked nice. I can't drive which exacerbates the problem.

I'm not sure if you cycle, can consider cycling but Northwood into town is very doable in less than 30 minutes. Coming home is a bit more of a work out with the climb out of the city but that's the way with most of Dublin.

Don't forget you have the Lidl store in Northwood and the Eurospar both open very long hours 7 days a week (10-12 minutes walk). The 41 is 24 hours, very handy €2 spin home after being in town until whatever time you want. Also as highlighted, there is a new route coming to terminate in Northwood. But the Santry end is not too far from the main road. What you lose in the walk makes up for a very frequent bus service. Peak time from the Swords Rd into town is circa 30-40 minutes at the worst. Off peak is 20-25 minutes.

Also, it goes without saying, the park / woods are a brilliant amenity to have too.

  • I love listening to music too much so always have headphones in so cycling is never the safest option for me.

I didn't actually notice the Lidl store as it was evening time I might give a call over for another look at the area during day light hours next weekend.

The new "A" replacements for the 16 will be quicker, no detour around Beaumont
