Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

When I was with my ex I used to break out in a cold sweat and heart palpitations whenever someone mentioned us getting married so thought I wasn’t into marriage. With my now husband I wanted to marry him straight away. We had some wonderful times at the start and then very quickly we had some tough times (not caused by the relationship but serious illness, bereavement, work problems etc). I think those tough times brought us even closer, but more importantly we saw each other at our worst and really saw the other persons true character in those trying times.

I do think it’s unfair to say x the correct amount of time to get engaged and y is correct time to get married. There are so many variables at play. Just never, ever settle for someone because you don’t want to be alone.

    So you're still getting some!

    Apologies, I couldn't resist.

    I liked your post.

My parents did. Met in May, engaged in August, married in December. Knew they were in love with each other, decided there was no point in waiting. Had a really happy 32 years together until my dad passed away. They both said they just knew at the time.

i think if you don't know by 1 year if the person is THE person , then they aren't.

I think a lot of people thread water in the relationship phase dragging out years without proper commitment . That said i don't believe marriage needs to be the end goal for all depends what you want.

Despite all my sage advise above - I was with her 15 years before we got married but had 3 kids and 2 houses along the way so it wasn't like we were living the married life.

I think, it's hard to beat my parents in that matter. My father proposed after a week. They married after 3 months (it was a minimum legal requirement in Poland back then). And they were together for 54 years.
