Ticking Noise Volvo Penta

I just thought this might be off help to someone so said id post it in here.

Started to get a ticking noise in my Volvo Penta 4.3GL-D engine that went from slight tick to loud tick within a few hours.

Would it be one of the piston right gone? or a valve?

After a lot of reading I decided to try and change the lifters, as from looking at mainly car videos etc from the states these can give issue and essentially this is a Chevy V6.

Ordered the Lifters from the UK, Billys Speed shop, who turned out to be a nightmare to deal with, ended up buying the 12 lifters from the states.

They are Melling JB2079 which I now believe are in a lot of the engines the 4.3s the 5.7s etc.

I replaced all the lifters in my engine last night. Ticking was there for a min but then left and is now ticking over fine so far,

I cant run it for long as I've no water in the shed that the boat is in.

I have to take the intake manifold off again as I used the old intake gaskets as didn't want to use the new ones if I had to take the heads off to take them to the machine shop. Didn't want to waste the the 60pound that I paid for them

I will attach a video below of it running last night.

This might be a help to someone as I had to marine people look at it. One want 2500 sterling to take the heads of and get redone. The other didnt want to know wanted be to buy a new engine from him.

That really was excessive, and unnecessary without proper diagnosis.

It may well have just been a leaking exhaust manifold gasket. They can make alarmingly loud ticking sounds, but are generally harmless but annoying. But quiet easily fixed by fitting a new gasket if there is good access.

You jumped straight to major surgery.

Spent a good while with a statoscope and had it narrowed down to two rockers/vales on the starboard side. So went for it and fingers crossed ive it sorted now.
