Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Identify this AGA?? Any experiences

    Hi there

    We are doing a 2nd viewing of a house tomorrow. The house has an oil powered aga.. See attached pic.

    Can anyone identify it and anyone with any experience of using such an aga?? I've never used it, there is no other cooker in the kitchen and I've heard you have to keep them running 24/7 even in summer which doesn't bode well given the prive of oil!

    My only 'experience' with an Aga is that a brother of mine bought a house about a year ago and it came with a small Aga in the kitchen. What surprised me at the time was that the Aga did not feature at all in the auctioneer's photos or in his description of the house. That was the first signal that an Aga is not the standout feature of a house that it used to be. After a few months, my brother and his wife decided to get rid of it and they're not alone, according to this recent article on Bloomberg ...

    More and more families are removing their Agas as rocketing energy prices make the cast-iron ovens expensive to operate. Originally designed to burn coal and be switched on 24/7, the Aga is an energy guzzler and now even owners of more modern electric models are finding them too costly.

    Jack O’Dwyer, a Blackpool-based oven remover, has taken out 35 Agas this year and received at least 100 phone calls from people across the country looking to sell. Others are seeking to have them removed for free as they can’t afford the roughly £500 ($579) charge to remove them.
