How to work out what Kw my stove is -Blacksmith

Hi All,

I am taking out a stove of the house i bought, unfortunately i have no one to ask the Kw of the stove, is there a way to work it out as i want to sell it and i will be asked that question.

I know its only a few years old with little use. As the the owner passed away.

Any help appreciated,

It may be written on the back (if you can pull it out) .... had no idea what ours was until we had to move it recently and found the info on the back.

Why would you say 7kw? Any actual reason outside of a guess?

If it’s a boiler it’s 20kw.

On the basis of the dimensions and the lack of a description stating that it's a boiler?

The dimensions would indicate it would be somewhere between 12kw-18kw as a room heater, not 7kw.

However I’m pretty sure it’s the Blacksmith Forge 20kw boiler.

i had a stanley tara once, which was very similar in dimensions and was a claimed 8kW.

I have a big Norwegian stove called Trolla 108.

I can see thru gaps in the stove into the firebox. I tried with fire cement, but it's not producing much heat, after say 5 hours burning.

Do you reckon it's a goner?

Oh, isn't that one of the iconic Jotul stoves?

I'm not a stove expert (as has been established above) but I know that some stoves can be rebuilt and have the sealing rope replaced between the panels to fill the gaps. Mine (a Waterford/Stanley Oisin) also had gaps after 10 years of hard burning but I was able to fill them with the cement and that fixed the massive heat-loss which is associated with excessive air in the burning chamber.

The best question to ask is - is the stove shutting down when you close off the vents? Mine wasn't and this to me indicated that the holes were problematic.
