Motoring expenses I charge to my company

Hi All

Someone might be able to assist with my query. So I started a new company lately and do a bit of driving for work. How much travel expense can I claim per km?

The car I drive is my own and not the company's. So the company should be paying me? right? I think there are different bands depending how many kms you drive?

I drive about 20000km per year for work

I can still claim VAT back on fuel as well I assume?

Talk to your accountant, that is what you pay him for.

The Motor Travel Rates were updated in Circular 16-22 issued September 2022. As you will be charging the business with the use of your personal vehicle you will not be able to recoup any vat on the running costs. You should keep a record of mileage for each expense claim. If you will be using a lot of toll roads use a toll tag account to pay the charges. This could save you a lot of hassle down the line if ever you get a revenue audit.
