Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Service gas boiler

I used to get Bord Gais to service my boiler and wonder if I would be better of going with one of the independent companies dotted around Dublin? Any advantage staying with Bord Gais? Is this akin to going to a main dealer to service the car?

I doubt you will save much money one way or another.

None of them actually work for Board Gas. They will all be independent tradesmen. I would assume anyone on Board Gas books would have to be reliable and do a good job. Nothing stopping you going through board gas and keeping the guys number for the next time. That's assuming they haven't already left a sticker on your boiler from last year.

I worked regularly for an old dear a few years ago. Over coffee she told me that money was a bit tight as the guy Bord Gais sent out to service her year old boiler for the first time told her it was beyond repair and needed replacing.

He took 3k off her, no word of a lie.

I don't believe that for a second. Not saying you made it up but the old lady is getting muddled on dates.

Why wouldn't she get the installer to service it? How many years warranty do you suppose a new gas boiler has?

I get people ringing me about their shower only a year or two old. Probably still under warranty. Then I get the make & model from them only to discover its been obsolete for years and in some cases parts are no longer available.
