Best Plan for non EU ?

A family member who is presently with 48.ie has to go to Switzerland for a week's work experience.

Could anyone suggest the best plan , (either payg or bill pay) she doesn't want to chance 48 especially since switzerland is non eu and she does need to have her own number active while there.

If she has access to WiFi, then Eir or GoMo both support WiFi calling while roaming on their €14.99pm SIM-only mobile plans. Just leave Roaming switched off and WiFi on while in Switzerland, and normal calls/texts will be routed through WiFi, with full access to the bundled calling plans as if she was at home, without any roaming charges. She also needs to check that her handset supports WiFi Calling (the vast majority of recent smart phones support it).

Vodafone seems to include Switzerland in European roaming deals.

reason is that shes living in a rural area and three provide the best coverage there

Three offer you a miserable non-EU allowance of 1GB which costs €20 for 30 days usage if you're on bill pay. God knows how you would stretch 1GB over 30 days. Could be going to Geneva next summer and it's surrounded by France on 3 sides. Does anybody know if the French networks give good coverage there? One could use ones EU allowance then.

Cheers. I suppose one could do a manual network selection to avoid inadvertently going on to the Swiss networks. I got a text from Three a few days ago saying the out of bundle rates for Andorra and Switzerland are reducing to 22c per MB from 5 December. Thats a helluva reduction from the current eye watering €7.12 per MB.

22c per mb - so only about €6 to read a few articles with pictures on the bbc or the journal - bargain!

Vodafone sim is the obvious and suggested solution here that provides actual usability.

Switzerland is not in the EU.

Vodafone is the exception.
