While the accident itself is tragic and quite unusual in nature, it does provide us with yet another example of what a robust airframe the A320 appears to be. According to FR24, the aircraft was going over 140mph when the collision happened, despite the high speed impact it managed to remain relatively intact and suffered no fatalities or serious injuries on board, remarkable really.

Would the same section of control be responsible for ground vehicles like these crossing runways as are responsible for the planes using them?

    [edit]

Just read on AVHerald that recordings indicate it crossed the runway without clearance while on the way to another plane with mechanical issues.

A tragedy, but well done that aircrew for spotting the truck early and rejecting before impact. I wouldn't have fancied their chances had they not done that.

  • Sadly an impact did happen, but it seems flight crew and everyone did their best under the circumstances.

Lima is one of my favourite airports, had to spend 10 hours there, very modern and comfortable.

  • There must have been a communication issue, or misunderstanding. Should be easy enough to investigate.

My point was thankfully the flight crew rejected before the impact which saved the lives of everyone on board. Had they not rejected when they did they'd be a smoking hole like SAS at LIN. They deserve huge credit for spotting it when they did and reacting as they did.

The Fire Engine turning as it did also likely saved lives. Hitting the aircraft dead center would have likely killed more.

Good to see the pylon pins sheared as designed, that also helped save lives here.
