Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was that sort of Roy Keane's attitude all the time? Slagging off Shay Given for getting loads of caps etc.

I think how players look after themselves mean that the 100 cap thing is more common, especially if that player is a talisman.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Keane would have had a lot more if he bothered to show up.

    Hows Nunez playing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Kim Min-jae on top so far but he did just get by Kim after the CB lost his footing. Kim looked to have picked up an injury but he's going to play on. Suarez has been subbed off after an ineffective game and Cavani now on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,914 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Hard to say, game has a lot of huff and puff, and cagey bits, Nunez not getting much chance to do much. Not many shots on goal. According to sofascore time of writing - 70 minutes Uruguay only have had one shot on target out of 7 shots. Korea have had 3 shots with none on target.

Nunez just hit a shot wide at 80 min - Cavani seems the live wire for Uruguay though,

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Surprised Kang-in Lee didn't start. He's been good in La Liga with Mallorca. Noticed Kwon Chang-hoon is on the bench as well. I loved watching him at Dijon a few years ago and thought he was ready for bigger things. Then he went to Freiburg and it didn't work out, so he returned to Korea. Looks an even game heading to the final stages.

One factor here is that there are far more international football teams now than there were in the past. In Uefa alone, you had the disintegration of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia and the emergence of a series of micro-state teams. At the time of the World Cup qualifiers in 1986 Uefa had 33 members. Now it has 55. All of that means more games in qualifiers. CONCACAF, the OFC and the AFC have seen similar explosions in team numbers.

The above doesn't apply to Brazil and Argentina (only 10 teams in CONMEBOL) but they seem to always be flying around the world playing friendly matches as it's a big money earner for their football federations.

How is pellistri still on the pitch?? Young player offering nothing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,507 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

The likes of Wright, Charlton and Moore getting 100+ is far more of an achievement considering there were far less countries to play, nevermind more international 'breaks' in general, not to mention air travel wasn't as ubiquitous as it is today. Travelling for an away game actually meant something back then.

It's been a poor game overall tbf, very scrappy and no real quality in the final third from either side. There's only been 1 shot on target the whole game I think

A draw is probably a fair result, neither team deserve to win this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That wasn't a yellow card offence for the South Korean player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I want to see a highlight reel of Kim Min-jae's performance in that match because that looked one of the best defensive displays of the tournament. What a signing by Napoli. That price valuation continuing to rise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,948 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

    That's 4 0-0s in the last 3 days now

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,271 ✭✭✭Tandey

Portugal be happy with that result. Highlight of that match was Valverde going berzerk celebrating a straight forward tackle he won.

Kevin Doyle "Suarez looked like he was carrying a bag of spuds out there"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,914 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Doyle is gas in his analysis no filter whatsoever, he had forgotten about the Swiss v Cameroon match because it was so dull - 'Ah Jayus he said to Joanne. ''That match, I had forgotten, thank God'

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

That Steven Gerrard car ad is really annoying, he couldn't sound more wooden, was that the best take?

By the end to the WC it will likely make me hate Gerrard, and not think of buying that car, ever.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

That Ghana side looks quite good. Lamptey on the bench as well. Wouldn't put it past them causing some scary moments for Portugal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,176 ✭✭✭Xander10

    Tony O'Donoghue..oh no!

That Cavani sub for Suarez should of come alot sooner, he looked every bit his age in his performance. Sad to see but time stops for no man, one of the best strikers of his generation.

Nunez wasted out wide and surely they have someone better than Pellestri to play on the right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,330 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Arrascaeta is far better than pellistri. Didn’t come on.

Very poor first touch for the elderly gentleman playing up top for Portugal.

Ghana shape in a block looks good but the press when they try looks very unorganized

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,129 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I don't watch a lot of La Liga but I would have assumed Leao was better than Felix. I know he is on better form than Ronnie but he is never getting dropped.

    That goal should have stood.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,480 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Felix wins ball, gets kicked in leg, no penalty, not even a look, weird

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,863 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

Another shutout a distinct possibility here...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Seidu holding his own well against Felix who has been disappointing.

Felix has learnt a good bit from Ronaldo. Spends a lot of the time on the floor and likes a whinge. Hopefully we get to see some of his talent at some stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,501 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

That scream from Cancelo near the end of the half, he sounded like he’d broken every bone and tore every ligament in his leg.

Nobody does the dark arts like the Portuguese.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,948 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

He's only just turned 23 but Felix is wasting his time at Madrid, they don't play to his strengths at all and he's barely developed since leaving Benfica thanks to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Felix is an Atletico player alright. 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,129 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

What a little sht Felix is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Not nice from Felix. Acting like he had his faced caved in from the fresh air headbutt. Stupid from Seiou at the same time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,507 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Felix reminds me of Jimmy McElroy from Blades of Glory in terms of body type. Have yet to see him justify even half his price-tag yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I can see Portugal playing for a penalty or getting a player sent off.

    And there you go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,036 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Wonder how hard it'll be to take Ronaldo off? Love to Gonçalo Ramos on for him, bang in form. And Leao on for Felix.

<edit> Ronnie will get his goal here now anyway. Christ, the amount of posing!

Ghana very hard done by there, absolutely never a penalty. Ronaldo padding the stats without doing much,

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,271 ✭✭✭Tandey

    Never a penalty.

That’s never a penalty , how has VAR not overruled that decision

Ridiculous penalty. Where was VAR. Was it even checked ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    SIUUUU

'Finished player' wins his country a pen and buries it. GET IN!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Horrible player, played for it. Silly from Ghana as well, right on the edge of the box and going away from goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,129 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

After that I don't think there is a team I hate more in this tournament than Portugal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,745 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

Ronaldo & Messi will still be scoring pens in the 2030 WC

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,036 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Don't think he'll ever lose the ability to theatrically fall over and knock one in from 12 yards in fairness... not sure he's up to much else these days though.

People on here going on about Messi getting a ‘soft’ penalty the other day, and Ronaldo is given that!!

    Never a penalty.
